A basic question from a newbie when using Mapsource. I'm attempting to plan a route from Mexico to Panama that uses dirt roads a majority of the way. Problem is I can't zoom out more than 3KM before losing my dirt tracks that are displayed on the map. Is there a way to maintain the dirt road visisbility on the map whilst viewing from a farther out ie. 10-20KM at least? If not in Mapsource will Basecamp allow these modifications? The map I've working with is: http://www.cenrut.org/adw/over.htm If there's a better map by all means let me know. Thank you.
Basically, no. The road types are designated in the map data and certain types are shown at certain resolutions. Small roads are not shown when zooming out farther, as you've found.
What Dave said is true-------but be sure to have your detail set to "Highest"---that will help. BigDog
Dang. Was hoping I was overlooking a basic function somewhere. Thank you both for the response. Yep got the map on most detail shown. Sadly ain't enough offroad tracks for my taste. Where's the button for "more offroad tracks".
BaseCamp definitely shows more detail when zoomed out than MapSource. I'm looking at them side by side right now. Both set to 20mi zoom, and detail to Highest. Both showing City Nav NA NT 2013.1. I can see a bunch of secondary roads in BaseCamp that are not displayed in MapSource. MapSource v6.16.3 BaseCamp v4.1.2
Thanks for the tip. Trying to get my arms around Basecamp but after Mapsource for years its not any fun.
Yeah, I hated it at first, too. Still prefer MapSource, but at least I feel like I can somewhat use BC now. If you haven't noticed yet, the little icons in the very bottom left corner are your friends!
Basecamp definitely does show minor roads at higher zoom levels than Mapsource. I almost always use Mapsource, but I do resort to Basecamp when I want to see minor roads at high zoom levels.
I run R & R in my Nuvi in motor home for just that reason. CN sucks in Nuvi, doesn't show any town names at decient zoom leval and no side roads. R & R shows much more.
Because what they said is partially wrong. The map data specifies what the road types are, but that in no way constrains how a program displays them. If you wanted to, you could write a program that displayed all road types at all zoom levels.
I agree. This is obviously generally true since Basecamp shows more details at a given zoom level than Mapsource for the same mapsets.
