Once the doctors figured out he was brain-dead, the tech working the ambu bag was simply told to stop and we watched as his heart transformed from a perfectly beating organ to a flat line. That was the first of many deaths I witnessed before I got out of the service. That wasn't even during a war and it messed with me - it's not tough for me to imagine what today's vets are going through.
