A different Old Skool project - 1929 Ford Model A

Unfortunately, I'm not sophisticated enough to drink for the taste.

Hey now, my Peter Wright anvil also comes from England (Dudley, in fact).. I'll be getting some use out of it soon, too. If you think the car's old skool (81 years old)... the anvil is 150 years old.

..and since this is a motorcycle site; I don't own any American bikes!

just stumbled across this, pretty great! I had gone through your BMW threads awhile back and always noticed the A in the background. My father in law was the president of MARC (model A restorers club) awhile back. his basement is full of them all in pristine condition. he actually taught me and my wife (his daughter) how to drive a roadster a month or so ago. it was a blast. he just restored a 74 honda cb360 for my wife which we just brought home a couple days ago (which is why i started browsing around this forum, i need an owners manual for it!-haha).

anyway, looking forward to keeping up with this, as I've been asking him to teach me how to do a complete restoration of an A from the ground up. i know they are very excited to teach the "youngsters" how to do it without it turning into a hot rod..haha. i may send him your thread here, he would get a kick out of it.

Axles removed. There's only rivets holding the frame together now.

Ok, FINALLY got the reground camshaft.

Everything I can think of for the engine to go back together (and run) is in my shop.

How should I put the new cam (timing) gear on, though?

The most likely way is to protect the camshaft with copious cardboard and hold it stationary in the vise.. but that scares me a little. I don't want to mess this up.

I make leather vise jaws out of old tops of boots with ankle padding.

Always worked like a champ with wood work or other delicates....

CDD - I use the plastic inserts that hold the rounds separate in boxes of .357 ammo for soft jaw inserts. The plastic will crush to hold flat or round objects with good grip in the vise without damage to the work piece. This is a great thread ! THANKS - Stan

I don't think the bearing surfaces are supposed to be gouged and pitted. Guess a phone call is in order..

does it just press on? I was unable to find pics of it in your thread.

do you have a shop press? heat one, freeze one, press in?

The camshaft gear? It just slides on the end and a special nut holds it on. Torquing that nut is what worries me.. but this camshaft might not be the one that ends up in the engine.
