Working for a living sucks. ...but the INcome beats the outGO of unemployment. AMHIK Not quite 70 and sunny here in the Nation's Capitol, but I was inside all day. Yanno... ONE of these days I'm gonna have a clean CX race. I'm gonna get a good start (yesterday's was a drag race up a hill Did I mention how badly I suck at hills? ), I'm gonna ride smoothly without any stupid mistakes (lap 2: tried to run an off-camber. Lost 10m that I had to claw back. Still lap 2: effed up the sand turn and had to run 3/4 of it. Lost another 10m+ that time too! Effed up the sand turn EVERY lap, but that's another story. Lap 3: missed my pedals on a re-mount on a hill. Had to stop. Get off the bike. Get some momentum (run) and re-mount. Lost 4-5 spots there. etc) It got better as the race went on, but I still made little stupid mistakes every lap. Managed to smooth out but by then it was too late. Came in appx 5min after the leaders. Worst finish of the year. Grrr ...on the up side: I had a FAN-farging-tastic mtn bike ride on my CX bike right before the race. Went into what's known as Avalon and rode the trails. I hear there's a LOT of trails in that system. May have to go back. Too bad its 90+ min away from home. M
That was fun. I just got in from a 2-ish hr mtn bike ride from the back door of the shop. Left after we closed, so had to change in the parking lot. :eek1 Man! did it get chilly or what?! Two thin wool layers under my softshell jacket is still too much for this temp range. Gonna have to lighten up on the jacket next time. M
your lucky i might get 10mi depending on how much i want to put up with traffic speaking of which i got to get started
Last week was the kick off of the West Africa tour (ECOWAS Tour). Start off point Lagos, Nigeria then Benin, Togo, Ghana and end at Cote d'Ivorie. Riders and teams from Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Cote d'Ivorie, Libera, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and an observer from Cape Verde took part. It was cool doing Moto work on the first stage and seeing the racing from inside. I was behind the main bunch on an incline that I hit close to HR max @25km/h and the bunch was doing 45 (and looking relaxed) when I checked my GPS. And the fireworks had not even started then. The attacks were a thing of joy to watch, and seeing the Nigerian team go TTT mode to reel in a break was awesome. <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/mrxB9zEvYM9-EgzosyojQ9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-KGcIMFiPEUw/UoPkHrQCvlI/AAAAAAAALrw/16T7osIMBbQ/s640/ECOWASCyclingTour2013106.jpg" height="244" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/102094600529123038018/ECOWASCyclingTour2013Edition?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">ECOWAS Cycling Tour 2013 Edition</a></td></tr></table> Numero Uno <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/nQqW-PM08MfAxLC0L4tvPNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-5Cp9AAiKq-U/UoPjv_dKVSI/AAAAAAAALrg/5LNnbNhQKJE/s640/ECOWASCyclingTour2013108.jpg" height="640" width="486" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/102094600529123038018/ECOWASCyclingTour2013Edition?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">ECOWAS Cycling Tour 2013 Edition</a></td></tr></table> Neutral part of stage <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QlNky-AkZdmnmlB-35fQQNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kbsICEAiG1A/UoPjgQICt6I/AAAAAAAALrY/mtcrYzZaW-s/s640/ECOWASCyclingTour2013109.jpg" height="374" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/102094600529123038018/ECOWASCyclingTour2013Edition?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">ECOWAS Cycling Tour 2013 Edition</a></td></tr></table> Break! <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/L4V04ufKSxpeXxfW7hB-rdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-J33DPjzZTAM/UoPizbF4pDI/AAAAAAAALqg/YMUsG4TbJZk/s640/ECOWASCyclingTour2013116.jpg" height="427" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/102094600529123038018/ECOWASCyclingTour2013Edition?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">ECOWAS Cycling Tour 2013 Edition</a></td></tr></table> Peloton chasing <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/RDxrqi-wGeSdUDZV8fShH9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-CgkH0WIiD7w/UoPi_JwmkUI/AAAAAAAALqw/Fj1PldwBjWA/s640/ECOWASCyclingTour2013115.jpg" height="324" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/102094600529123038018/ECOWASCyclingTour2013Edition?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">ECOWAS Cycling Tour 2013 Edition</a></td></tr></table> More here
About 5 hours ago, this guy, Vincent Muoneke of Seattle (originally from Nigeria) just finished his 10th 1200-km brevet ...... ...... this year. :huh Let me help you with the math. 1200-km x 10 is 12,000 km or roughly 7500 miles. I rode a bit with Vincent in the one we did in Texas - great guy, damn good rider. Oh, this particular event was in Australia and had just over 53,000 ft of climbing hence the Sydney - Melbourne Alpine 1200 jersey. Let me speak briefly for myself...and probably for the majority of riders here - "Ain't no f'n way for me to duplicate his achievements."
There's some good info on there but #1 is If I have an off I don't want my phone & my id 10 feet away with my bike. I want them in arm's reach!
Taking 9 hours of coursework this semester combined with my career and farm duties has put a halt on peripheral activities. since it requires much less gear; I can still eek out a run a couple days per week but no way can I effectively train on the bike. I hope to alleviate some of that as the year/semester draws to a close. I really need to maintain the base if I plan on racing at all next year.
ha... I would not wish that on anyone but I'm sure I would not feel as bad about not riding if that were the case. I'm living vicariously through you guys until I can put rubber to pavement again.
Garmin Edge 500 on the local craigslist, guy wants $135. These don't have any maps or nav right? I was wanting a computer for the LHT but you can get a decent Cateye for ~$30 and if I want to track a ride I usually just use my phone. Is the extra $100 for the Garmin going to get me anything?
My Garmin 510 gives me much more precise data than my phone tracking. If the cell signal is weak or drops out anywhere, my ride data can be sporadic or missing from using the phone plus I don't have to burn through the phone's, already limited, battery. The Garmin UI is pretty intuitive and easy to extract if you like keeping up with the metrics.
+1 to what Ridge said. Also, $135 is a smoking deal for that unit. You can probably resell it for more if you don't like it. My bottom of the barrel Edge was $10 less and it doesn't do jack shit, except record the most basic functions.
Thanks guys, I'll think about it... What's the battery life like on these things after being used for a year? I'd been recording almost every ride using my phone and then decided that was only worth it for longer rides. I like the data but I'm not sure I do anything useful with it
I can get 3 or 4 rides that exceed 4 hours each on a single charge. I don't usually let it run that low, but it'll easily outlast your phone battery. Is the seller including all of the sensors? (cadence/speed and HR?)
