I may have to go rescue my own TAG location if no one else wants to go for it. Either that or I need to start a second tag game that stays within 50 miles of the Capital building or something so we can have more action!! I have obligations Friday evening at work, nothing Saturday (so far), and obligations on Sunday morning (unless I find someone to cover for me)... Besides that, i could probably be talked into riding.
Looks like the Holiday has kept everyone, tied up. It has for me. I think the second tag of 50 miles, is a good idea. After most areas are covered, you could extend that range. Peaches< where you located, I am in Terry.
Be careful what you ask for. My wife if the photographer and she takes a lot of photos. We are going to the BMW Rally in Johnson City TN and have rented a cabin for the week.
Yeah, between the holiday, work, and life in general, it has been hard to go get the most recent tag. But Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning is starting to look promising for me, if no one beats me to it.
I live IN Jackson, about a mile from Hooters. I'm thinking about going for a short ride this afternoon, wanna ride? I get my other riding jacket back from the tailor on Friday (getting more reflective material added) and was thinking of doing some riding/ camping this weekend... What are some good camping spots within 30 miles? Preferably near a body of water. (keep in mind good cell coverage is a must b/c of work.)
Marathon lake south of Forest. A bit more than 30 miles (more like 70) but there is a good campground there and IIFC I had phone service while there. Depending on what you mean by water, Rocky Springs has free camping and a shallow stream. It is about 40 miles down the Natchez Trace. There is also a campground out by Ratliff's Ferry (north on the Trace about 30 miles from Jxn). Askew's Landing west on I-20 at Hwy 22 I use to go to Rocky Springs all the time. I liked hiking the creeks and there is a hiking trail that will take you from the campground to the town and the waterfalls. May not be much water falling since it has been so dry.
I've bike camped at Roosevelt and had cell coverage the whole time. They also have one of those metal carports in the back of the park that we parked our bikes under, which was convenient. You can ask at the gate for that spot. It was pretty damn quiet out there too.
I camped at Roosevelt, this past Spring Break. We stayed in the motel there on Roosevelt. The motel was like $60 a night. It has a kitchenette, in each room. We did alot of riding in Bienville forest. Since they still allow OHV, riding. I may be interested in going there, but the camping, nah. I would meet you there, I camped a lifetimes worth, while in the US ARMY. Trophy, also listed many good places. That I want to check out in the future. Thanks Trophy! PM me if your interested, in Morton.
Not to highjack this thread, but backwoods opened the door. See my post on the MS TOR thread and give a little feed back.
This this trip was with eatsalotapeaches, and me. EAT maped out the routes to Morton, MS. From there our directional plans changed. We were on the chase for the missing Ug. We caught up to him just before Trophy1298. We all chatted, but had to get moving due to the heat. And Ug wanted to get on to Jackson. We started in Florence,MS, then rhode to Here From Morton we haeded on through Forkville, Lena, and onto Carthage,MS. Where we stopped to have some lunch. While eating here we dicided to head to the Natchez Trace. We next stopped at Riverbend From here we headed on down the Trace to HWY 51. When then exited, the Trace. traveling along HWY 51 through Jackson to South Street, the Ironworks.
Yep... Saw the tag, knew where it was and figured I had plenty of time to grab it. So my helper and I decided to start the resto project we have been planning. We turned this into this Then it was time for my helper's nap, and time for daddy to ride. Took a leisurely trip up the trace, nice hot weather interrupted by a welcome shower. All was going well until I see a couple of suspicious looking characters hanging out by the tag. They looked like hard core bikers, so I approached with great caution. It was then I realized my worst fears had come true. The ruff, rowdy (and sweaty) bikers had Ug, and I was the most recent rider to be Bruced.
Cool helper! What is the Honda ya'll are workin on, maybe a CB350? I had to edit the thread pics below. I organized them on Photobucket, and it deleted them, lesson learned. Ug really was on the move yesterday. I thought since we arrived just a bit sooner, Saturday, you might get the Ug at his hideout.
Good eye. It's a 1971 CB350 (twin). The first street bike I ever rode was a a 70's CB 350. A friend of mine came across this one, it is complete (not even a dent int he tank) and runs like a top. It should be a fun project. After I left River Bend I thought "I should have just tagged along with you and EAP. Oh well, there will be other days and other rides.
Eeore, just checking in on the thread . good to meet you today. Will check out the Ug thread after this. My favorite rides are on the west side of the state from Claiborne Co. all along the Sippi river , Natchez to Pickneyville . Port Gibson , Rodney and Blue Hill, are some good rides . The smaller the road the better for me , I ride a KLR 6fiddy . I also keep a set of spare wheels with 80/20s mounted for some really good backcountry rides . There a good rides all over MS. Beautiful place to ride.
