Yamaha xt350/400 hybrid!!

You're making great progress. I was going to suggest mounting a small gel battery under the seat myself, but what you've done looks good!

I live vicariously now, through you guys, as I no longer have a shop, or even a damned garage! Which SUCKS, that was my ideal "man cave", though I despise that term. 20 miles from home, and NO PHONE! Oh well, someday, until then I'll just throw out some, hopefully, good ideas to you guys!

I started working on my skid plate today. I still have some trimming and fitting to do, but at least I started it. This stuff was hard to bend. It will definitely be tough enough. I will be putting some speed holes in it once its finished.

Skid plate done. I just welded threaded mounts to the frame and used stainless counter sunk screws.

It took me 6 months to put it together and 47 minutes to take it apart. I will finish tearing the frame down, then I need to finish all the welds I couldn't get to with the engine in. And start prepping for paint. In the mean time I will be rebuilding the forks and cleaning up the wheels and mounting tire etc.......So much to do. I also need to clean/paint/polish the engine. It doesn't really have any oil leaks or mechanical problems, so I think I am just going to run it as is for the summer. I will save the go fast bits for something to do next winter if I get bored.

I finished stripping down the frame. I ran into a bit of an engineering snafu when I tried to remove the rear shock. I put one of my sub frame braces in the way of the shock bolt. I had to notch the tubing to remove it....doh! I think I figured out how to fix it. I don't have any pictures of that yet. I did glass up my seat pan so I can get it off to the "seat guy". I also pulled my forks apart and installed new seals and dust seals. The springs and guide bushings were within specs according to the manual. I cleaned up the fork lowers. I decided not to polish them since this is going to be a "dirty" bike. I put in some fresh bel-ray fork oil and 8psi on top of that, then some seal savers and the forks are ready for action. I also picked up my paint today.

What model YZ is the wheel and brake from?

Would like to do that conversion to my TT350.

The wheel and axle came from a 1990 yz125. The caliper and mount came from a 01 drz400. It was a super easy swap. The TT350 should be about the same so convert. It was a worth while investment. Just watch ebay, I got everything for next to $nothing$. Do the tt's use a 520 chain or the 428 like the xt? The Yz hub runs a 520 so it was a good time to switch.

The TT rear uses "Z" spokes which are a bugger to replace, assuming you can get them...

yeah i had to bore out my swing arm a little.so the yz axle might pop right in.

Today I dropped my seat pan off to get upholstered. I might start painting this weekend. I Have Yamaha Blue, white, and Crystal grey(metallic silver). Any ideas for a paint scheme. At the moment I'm thinking about painting the frame Blue and the tank and hump silver with some type of blue or white accents. The front fender and headlight will be blue. Any pics or suggestions will be appreciated.

i got to spend all day in the garage today!! I finished painting the bike. I think it turned out awesome. I was to tired to take any pictures. I will get some posted up soon.

Anxious to see the paint, this turned out to be a really cool build. Nice job.

It needs to cure before I can put it together, but I will take some pictures of the pieces.

Sorry to make you guys wait. Here are some pictures of my progress. The color line should match up from the tank and the hump once I get the seat back from upholstery. Fresh bushings/bearings and shafts in the swig arm. I will be adding some yamaha decals and emblems.

Now it's almost done, you can come over and finish mine off

800 genuine km's on the engine.
Was stolen and returned in parts.
I bought the bits off the 85 year old original owner to help clear some shed space

He wants first ride...

It's just held together by gravity at the moment...

The moment has lasted 2 years and counting...

SO there's NO reason yer won't have it going fot the Mt Pat snow ride...
