Speaking as a mountain biker for the last thirty years, I completely understand treating hunters and horse riders with respect. Most I have run into have been super nice, but there is a minority of those groups that despise everyone else using state forests.

Hi chasbo, glad to see you didn't move far! :D

I have stopped and talked to many hunters and horse folks and you are 100% correct, most are decent folks who just don't want to be fucked with.

Yep, still a semi local LOL. It is nice to live basically on Michaux's doorstep for a change. Now if I can jump through all of PA's licensing hoops, I will be able to ride the KTM through there.

If it is already registered in another state, you are good to go. Otherwise it is more time consuming than difficult.

When dealing with horses, if you are passing in opposite directions, it is a good idea to just turn the bike off AND remove your helmet. Remember, not only are horse skittish around noisy things, but strange looking creatures can make them jumpy. Every rider that I have every encountered appreciated it when I took my helmet off.

Wow SoPaRider, you really are raining on the parade, what with all this tree huger, horse, and hunter talk :D

Looks like the Fall Festival will be contained around the Pine Grove Furnace, and the biggest hunting threat seems to be muzzleloader season on deer and bear. I'm no hunter, but I'd think the muzzle loaders would be pretty sure they've got a target before they squeeze! I could care less about dirty looks. Horses I can yield to.

The weather should be great, around 60F...

    How are the fall colors?

Whose still in for a meet in Waynesboro?

I had the same bike. My mom got it for me in '71 to convince me to be a good boy. It didn't work.:lol3

I rode through Carlisle in July leaking oil from my busted case. I hope you didnt slip on it.:eek1

A couple post ago I put up a link that has both Tpat files in it, and some of Jeff's best of Michaux.
I downloaded the files today and I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I posted them. They look more like waypoints I put in Basecamp to force the route. I must have left the route in "direct route" when I created the tracks I posted :1drink

So Fixed them. I added Routes12F, 13F and 15F to the zip file posted above. They look much better where they actually follow the roads :evil

But remember, with GPS, you always need to check the information to a map and make sure it really does work before traveling 100's of miles to find out the file is messed up. :deal

Very cool! Wasn't that a wacky great bike? Separate oil tank for a 2 stroke, two c/s gears, etc. Got mine for about 200 bucks from a local car dealership. In 1979....

I plan to be there. I'll play around with basecamp to see if I can figure out how to load the tpat routes on my gps...

All you need is Routes12F, 13F and 15F. I know the name is route, but they are really track files (made from routes).

in basecamp, make a new library, highlight it, File, Import into (library name), pick file name from browser box that pops up. And it should import the GPX file. But keep in mind if you try to make a route out of this, it will make 1 flag for every point in the Track file. YOu will need to filter to X points (less them 50 on my montana) as you convert it.

Since I left the routes (without the F) in the zip file last night, If you have the time, open them and see what they look like. They might be the actual route points I made to form the routes.

I don't know when I am starting, but the Wife and I are going solo. We will be on Route12 (heading NE) which is north of 30.If time (and wife) permits, I might start down SW on route 13.

@TowPro: Thanks for the photo. Looks perfect!

@Lupin 3: I'm coming from Annapolis, I've not heard from anyone else, should we meet near the south end of Michaux? Or Frederick? Or stick w/Waynesboro?

Regardless, I'll plan on being in/near MSF at 10:00am.
