Thanks, guys! I'm very excited to see everything after powder.

The people who own the powdercoating business are extremely nice.

I asked them how in the world a coating business could be 15 min from my house w/o knowing about it? They told me that in the past they were exclusive to large businesses and mil spec coatings for Uncle Sam. (There were 2 H1 Alpha Hummers in the shop when I went there today) They have only recently opened the doors for everyone else.

The only reason I found out about them in the first place was having a mutual friend. That worked out great!

So now it's a waiting game, but I'm confident they will do a great job. They were trying to talk me into powdering the Tundra bumper. Maybe in the spring.

Heck, I'm sure you will already be powder coating by spring.

So, where is this place?

Umm.....yeah, I was looking at a small oven about 2 mos. ago, but was brake shopping. I didn't want to get the cart before the horse, plus didn't have quite enough coin to do both.

I have a really good feeling about this guy and hope we can work out a good business relationship.

After making this thead my first stop after I click on this site I have decided that Kirk is no longer a rookie and he needs to start a new thread with a different name. More of a "cool fab shop projects" thread. Or "no longer a rookie -fab shop projects".

The guy at the tool store asked me how much I'd like to spend. I told him I wanted a quality set, something much better than the big box crap.

He said he had a set from Starett for around $275. :eek1

I said thanks, but I was looking for something in between that, and the retail junk. I ended up spending about $90, and it will serve me well for years to come, I'm sure.

Some welding, a lot of grinding, and some paint. The rack is ready for the shelves tomorrow.

50 pages ago I suggested dropping the rookie. he rejected it. I think that name covers his ass when he screws something up.
When he makes his first sale he is going to have a hard time convincing anyone he is a rookie!

It looks good enough to me! Believe me, if you want to see suckie, look at some of my welds many pages ago. I have not welded since. It is better for the welding community...

You have no idea how much grinding my little HF grinder had to do to make it look good!

At work we always say

"A grinder and a can of paint, will make a welder out of one that ain't"

And in the mobile home buidness, "putty and paint makes pretty what ain't."

Hi Guys,

I found my way to this thread via JVB's cheap farkles thread, and came in for just the last few pages related to the fabrication of the GS boxes/racks. I'm probably missed it in a previous page but was a price discussed for the boxes/racks?

Following JVB's thread and his creative ways, I can only assume that going this route was either a much cheaper option than buying touratech or the like. Or is my untrained eye is missing the benefits of the increased quality?

Either way its a great looking functional product and I am very pleased to have been witness to the process.
