Aviation MegaThread!!!!

Can someone here host a video if I email it to them? I have had a cool video of the Super Scoopers picking up water for a while now, but I don't know how to put it up here.

Do you have a Smugmug account? If so, you can host it there. Or try YouTube.

Have SM, tried to do it, won't let me. It's an avi file and I don't have a fucking clue what that means.

YouTube says they support avi files.

Mike I'm glad you went to the effort to share the vid, that was sweet. Not an easy scoop in that little valley in the Santa Ana winds.

The last fire we had over here in Simi Valley, I climbed up on top of the hill behind my house with a hand held and watched and listened to all of the aerial attacks going on over on the other side of the valley. All 4 of the CDF planes were running a typical pattern: upwind, crosswind, downwind, & base with their drop on the final. EXCEPT the CANOOKS, who always came in direct, causing the aircontroller to have others do 360s and jump through hoops to stay out of their way. You could tell the CANOOKS were not well liked with their tactics by the chatter from the other pilots.

I am guessing that the operating costs has something to do with their tactics. I don't remember the exact number, but I think they are based here at a cost of a couple of million dollars, and I'm sure the city/county/state are responsible for cost of ops. Ergo, get your ass there ASAP, drop and repeat with haste.

I was chatting with some tower folks up at Ft. McMurray up yonder and they raise that same hell at the airports, too!
