My first Photomatix attempt. Doesn't have the HDR effect I was looking for. Maybe a tutorial or two is in order. :dunno

Might not be what you were looking for, but it's still a good photo. :thumb

If you're not doing it already - after the bracketed photos are merged, save the results as a TIFF file so you can play with it some more. For ease in finding them later, I'll add a "T-" to the front of the file name which puts them at the bottom of the list. Then, after you've saved the merged image and you have it tonemapped, try moving the slider at the top, the one marked "Strength" all the way to the left and see what that does for your photo. By using the same .tif file with a variety of settings you can really get an idea of what each of the controls accomplishes. The more you play with it, the more impressed you'll be. The combinations are virtually unlimited.

I agree; I don't think a photo post-processed in HDR has to look like it was post-processed in HDR. I like the pic. :-)

I took the day off (being self-employed has its perks...), dusted off the Road King and wandered the Blue Ridge this afternoon, shooting my first true "bracketed" exposures with the new Panny. I'm presently dumping the files to my SmugMug account; fingers crossed I've got at least one or two pix that'll really pop in HDR.

Thank you. Your check is in the mail! :thumb

I'm not 100% pleased with my final "interpretation" of this scene via Photomatix's HDR software, but ya gotta start somewhere:

You don't always need to shoot bracket photos if you shoot in raw. Make 3 copies of the same picture and change the exposure levels. -2,0,+2

    lexluther11,

is there a difference to the final result if you do what you suggested vs shooting the bracket pics?

    Thank you!!!

Hey, instead of sending you yet another check, how 'bout I just send one blank one and you fill in the appropriate amount?? :D

Here's another look at the Old Fort Chiswell Mansion from my ride yesterday. This is a fair amount of time monkeyin' around with Photomatix, and some other stuff. I was trying to replicate the look of an old linen postcard:

You get way better results by bracket shooting. You can also do tone mapping with a single picture.

Sun, clouds, rain, snow, granite, road, lines, and color of bike came together nicely with the tabletop tripod on a tree stump capturing the bracketed images. At Squaw Pass a couple of days ago...

WHAT???? No bike??? And I'm not old enough to know what a linen postcard is!!!:D
I have Photomatix, Adobe Elements, and FastStone Image Viewer,,,, but don't take time to use them to any degree.
Guess I take photos like I ride,,,,, half-fast!
