A good series on ABC tv is about the death of the high street shops in England. It's a similar concept.

They recreated high street shops of a different era for each episode and got the locals to use the high street. Last night's was the 1960s, when the first supermarkets appeared.*

In the episode people started using the supermarket because it was cheaper, but lost good quality produce and contact with producers / business owners ... and then whinged about the good stuff they missed, not seeming to realise that as consumers they made the decisions - we vote with our wallets (or credit cards these days) and then blame big business.

As I suspected there wasn't a drop of Maleny milk left in the shops in this area today, but it's a shame Phil's had to go through what he has to make people notice.

Wow! That is awesome though! The more people wanting to buy the local produce the more dairies that may be able to say "Fuck you" to the big boys!

Let's hope so ... maybe one day we can have this set up all over Oz?

BBC Radio 4 - Micro Dairies Programme
"In the last decade, two-thirds of dairy farmers in England and Wales have gone out of business. With milk cheaper than mineral water, many just cannot make a living. Charlotte Smith hears how dairy farmers are forging stronger links with consumers to stay in business. Could small scale community dairies be the way forward?"

Well i do have the option of buying Ashgrove farm's milk ( you may have heard of their cheese factory near Elizabeth Town in Tassie ) but, at $4.50 for 2 litres it's a bit hard to swallow. sorry..pun intended .
No wonder the owner said they'd had a significant drop in sales immediately following Coles action.

I do indeed know the Ashgrove products - i've even met one of the Ashgroves.

I pay $4+ for 2 litres of Maleny milk... although if I was still in Tassie i'd still buy Elgar organic milk. That stuff's what milk should be (i draw a line at the price of their cheese unfortunately :D)

parmalat is still pushing the line that the contract is binding even tho they didnt sign it
they are saying they've had to source milk to replace my supply and that they'll sue for the cost of this
also that they will with hold payment for all milk supplied in march until i let their tankers back in

Seems to me that Phil has got himself involved in a contractual dispute rather than a moral battle of good against evil.

    Keep a cool head, Phil
