Ladies, I don't know which thread to put this on as it really isn't about riding, but at the same time.... Phew, I think it was on the "Single Men for ADV Women" thread that I saw some guy had written about a movie called The Notebook. I'd never seen it, so off I went to the video store and hubby and me just watched it. Ladies, we can't stop blubbering. That has got to be the most romantic, saddest, happiest love story chick flick I have ever seen. I should stop blubbering after Christmas or so. I feel quite exhausted.
Hey Rosie, Good ride report, looks like you had a good time. Happy Thanksgiving Darth Peach, nice to see you hear. Up4thechallenge, motorcycles are addictive. Welcome. KCDakar and LadyDraco, Happy day after Thanksgiving. ExtremeVelcro, thanks for the movie recommendation. I'll remember that when I'm in the mood for a Chick Flick. Rainbow007 and I are just west of Portland, OR for the four day weekend doing some riding. Yesterday it was dirt riding. Today it will be dual sport riding probably over to the ocean.
so....where was that thread for the single men????? not to sound desparate or anything:huh and... the Notebook was very, very good and very, very moving. I LOVED the girls spunky personality and the boys persistance. It was beautiful.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=377198&highlight=Single+Women+riders It's well worth a look....there is some good material there one can work with
My solo adventure running an SS1000 . I had originally planed on taking my run in the middle of April, but a good friend of ours had a really bad motorcycle accident a few days before my departure.. Well being a woman, I elected to wait. I decided on the last Thursday in May...2007 Talked it over with my husband And he said go for it I did ask him if he would like to run it with me He declined as a friend was going to stay with us for a few days And well someone had to be at the farm to greet him .. I packed a small gas can in the trunk The night before Don (Hubby) didnt want me to be on the road over night, so a 1000 out and back wasnt going to sit good with him I looked the route over.. So I thought I would do a turn around He agreed that was OK with him . We had done so many high mileage days together, so long hours in the saddle wasnt a problem for me Plus I had done many runs to visit my folks alone 500 miles away... So the solitude wasnt a problem Just me my bike & the road Yeah!!! I just wanted to do it myself . I did have a time frame I wanted to shoot for, other then the 1000 in 24 . I was looking for 1000 in 15 .. Needless to say I didnt sleep well the night before Kind of like the night before Christmas as a kid .Ok so I never grew up But thats always normal for me.. I was up real early... But it was so foggy that morning I was forced to leave a little later then I wanted . Oh well best laid plans But it wasnt that bad just made the other end a little later .. So from where we live, it was 14+ miles from my first fuel stop over the mountain and the first dated receipt . Now its was getting close to 6:15 I told my honey Ill call ya in a few hours First gas stop was at 6:33 am I was off n running!!!! The day turned out to be just great . Lots of sun but not to hot out . The next few stops went nice n smooth . All is well then I see way up ahead.. STOPPED traffic!!! Oh crap!!!! Yuppers, was stopped for about 25 mins. A nasty truck accident . The driver was killed Hmmm... Maybe it was a good thing I left later then I wanted after all... My mind raced I could have been in the middle of a real bad wreck!! Well back on the road .. Bike was running great . For one that has 100k+ on it . I was really enjoying this run till . A white pick up truck threw a cup out of the window.. Ok no big deal . But then they started throwing more trash out the window!! Now it was becoming a little worrisome to me As I felt they where trying to hurt me In traffic! I used my CB and started talking to the truckers that where around me They saw what was going on and wanted to help Cool I thought . Well they boxed the white truck in and I twisted the throttle and nailed it and was out of harms way in a flash .Dang I love the power of my bike It was a good size hill that we all were pulling . But a Valkyrie has a 1520 cc engine with 6 carburetors And it ran that hill with out worries weaving thru traffic Sometimes its nice being a female As I dont think the truckers would have helped that fast if I was a guy All was good once again . Made my turn around point in Jackson TN...The time was 1:35 ct Was right on time too!!! Yeah!!! Called my Hubby to let him know I was on my way home And doing great All was going well till I was in Nashville again Another bad accident!! This time I sat for 54 minutes on the IS with the bike off UGH . I thought that this is going to hurt my time But I did hope no one got hurt in this long shut down. .. I did get to talk to this rider for a bit . I took this photo right before we had come to a full stop .. The rest of the afternoon and evening went great Traffic was moving along well Talked to a few truckers on the CB, and one was empty and said get right be hind me and Ill plow the road for you . And man oh man did he . Ok I know your not really suppose to draft but hey, he knew I was back there And we hit triple digits YeeHaw !!! Now that was fun while it lasted .. Then the hills started once again and I said my see yaws I pulled out of the line and passed all the trucks . My stops where still fast.. I would call Don as I was heading to a rest room.. Multi tasking LOL I pulled into my last stop... Topped off the tank got my receipt.. Call my Honey and told him I was heading over the mountain . My total time was 16h 50 min for 1026 miles So with the 2 traffic accidents I missed my personal time Oh well . But all in all it isnt a bad time To turn in.. I still have all my paper work Funny I never turned it in Why I dont know.. I guess cause I did it for ME I did get this cool shot .. So I did have fun doing my run..
What a great story Draco!! You're awesome!! And a total stud - way to get it done!! I'm impressed with enlisting the help of the truckers! Very cool! Hi Everyone out there! I poke my head in here once in a while and I"m always so impressed with 1.) how many of us are out here, and 2.) how much great support there is in this room!! I'm in the process of planning a 2 month escape - riding from Washington to Panama and back in March in April. Going solo on the GS! Yippee!! I can't wait! I hope everyone is enjoying the season!! (Where's the snow??!!)
The fact that I see the word "Pies" makes this photo even more fun!!! What a great story. 1000 miles in less than 17 hours!!! Impressive. I could never do it - not on any highway around here anyway. Too straight and boring. I'd be asleep on the bike within 1.5 hours. Hooray for the truckers helping you out a bit too.
It's nothing compared to what some of the gals around here do... Taking off for months in a strange land all alone ...:eek1 And those that leave for months here in the USA.. But I love to ride ...And so does my mate I'm glad you noticed that... Most don't get it or should I say see it..
Yes me too... Funny... But I have had some friends that think it's not an accomplishment with out having the tag saying "I'm an IBA" ... Oh well...
LadyDarco, thanks for sharing your ride with us. Good job on completing 1000 in 24 that's quite an accomplishment. Keep on rolling.......
I have several Iron Butt Association ride certificates. I am not doing it for anyone else, I am doing it for ME, but I send in my receipts and get the cert. because I like the souvenir of my ride, and the small payment helps support the Iron Butt Association and the work they do. With respect, if you do 1000 miles in 24 hours and do not go through the process of having your ride certified by the IBA, you have not done a SS1000, you have done a 1000 mile ride, which is a great accomplishment, but to actually do a certified ride you must get witnesses and have all your receipts in order, so it requires a little extra discipline. I encourage you to send in your receipts, I always like to see more women in the IBA lists, it serves as an inspiration to others. Motera IBA 10607
ALL papers are witness signed and all filled out... Mileage all written down .. All the discipline is done... I don't know maybe someday I'll turn one in... Thanks for the encouragement Motera..
That's great LadyDraco! Send it in, be proud of your accomplishment. If you or anyone are considering an/another Iron Butt ride, I would be happy to answer any questions. Next August I will be doing this: http://www.ironbuttrally.com/IBR/default.cfm Then I will be the one needing encouragement!
Interesting ride report, it's a shame that it is hidden in the women's rider forum. I do not understand why so many women riders feel a need to segregate themselves.
Prolly for the same reasons I can get the ones here to give me the 'greeting of the day' (means good morning, good afternoon, etc)--they all think we dudes are just scoping "opportunity". Wonder why the dudes blow us off too? I agree though, I love the different perspetive. And of course the dream that my wife will one day ride. B
Good Afternoon B SheRidesABeemer.... Why is it a shame ??? Why not post here... I promised the gals I would post this report...
