Well, like I always say, there is "Ugly but interesting" and just plain old ugly... I reckon she is an interesting bike to look at, once you get past the first shock!

Once it's started up however - then it really turns heads!

Yup, save your pennies buy a DL. It has the TL1000 power plant, not the DL, so it has more get up and go but shorter engine life.
I rode one on a demo ride - unimpressed (handling was poor compared with a DL 1000, even more so compared with the DL 650).

They are much happier with new rubber. The standard Metzeler rubber didn't really seem to work with the bike set-up.

Scott has replaced his tyres, and I think it is great fun. A bit more flickable than a Strom

Just bought a 2001 Navigator, complete with factory panniers and top box. Great bike, smooth, fun and comfy. There's a big issue with the mirrors though, cars seem to disappear in them. Imagine that!

This thread is alive. I still have the Navvi,went back to a busa for a while but didn't sell my Nav. Its still my favourite machine. I have ridden it for 27000 km which over the three year period I've had it isn't a lot but its all been quality riding.
I put some engine protection bars on it, fabbed up an engine guard and did the 19 inch wheel conversion putting it on pirelli scorpion tyres. It didn't really slow the road riding down as much as I thought it would but now I'm having a lot more fun in the gravel.
Without a doubt the best bike I've owned, hence the reason I'm keeping it.
I just did some major servicing on it and I had to replace all the bearings in the rear suspension. I've crossed a few rivers and some water got in. A little time on the internet and I managed to get the needle roller bearings and sleeves quite cheaply. Aprillia share a lot of parts. I also replaced the front springs with a wilburs progressive product which made a big difference. The engine is as good s gold with only one valve clearance needing minor adjustment. As she approaches 40K I reckon its time for a new rear shock and am looking towards Ohlins.

Have to be the best bike I have ever owned.
Parts became increasingly hard to come by in this part of the world.
My poor old girl was held together with gaff tape and zip ties in the end.

Had a pair of GPR cans (from Italy) and they "unleashed the beast" in more ways than one

Still got a (slightly damaged) belly pan somewhere in my garage

I am considering similar upgrades this winter especially the rear shock linkage bearings and the swinging arm bearings. Did you keep a record of the part numbers or such. Just asked a suspension specialist who deals with Ohlins WP and Wilbers to recomend a replacement rear shock.

Does the Gran Canyon and Navigator share the same chain slider? I am looking to have some reproduced and have a Navigator chain slider on hand.
