I had to look this one up. There were FOUR 260 hp. Mercedes engines inside the fuselage. Top Speed was 81 mph. Climb to 9600 feet took 2 hours. And Linke-Hofmann's main business was building steam locomotives! One of their locomotive designers obviously designed this monstrosity.........

Looks like it was a heavy bomber.

In 1916, the German company Linke-Hoffmann GmbH began developing unusual heavy bomber RI In 1915 blowing in the wind tunnel showed that the scheme "Wallfisch" (fuselage occupies the entire space between the wings) reduces drag and engineers Linke-Hoffmann extrapolate these results with models and light aircraft to "rizenflyugtsoyg."

Height of the fuselage was enough to make it even "double-deck" and "triple-decker": on the top floor have cockpit and "radio room" on the ground - a place scorer, and in the middle - the engine bay with four engines Mercedes D.IVa , rotating two propellers.

The first prototype (R8/15) took to the air at the end of 1916. With its creation, the designers decided for another experiment - part of the skin was replaced with a transparent material, such as cellophane, trying to achieve at least partial invisibility machine. However, the result came out made the opposite - transparent parts almost like a mirror reflecting the sun's rays making the aircraft more visible.

After tests ordered a series of three aircraft - (R40..42/16), but the last two cars were not taken army, and remained at the firm. The second copy (also the first production) crashed on landing - the pilot misjudged the height, and as a result of aircraft landing gear broke and got to his nose. At this praktichesiki ended the history of this aircraft.

I don't know what the aircraft is, but the two radiators lead me to believe that the engine is a water cooled Salmson radial.

To be honest, I couldn't tell you. Not even sure what country it's from, although I believe it is US.
