Ooops I forgot to put dimensions!

    Length inside: 291mm
    Length outside: 295mm

    Height: 120mm

    Depth @ top: 71mm
    Depth @ bottom: 78mm
    both at deepest points

They will be black powder coated and we MAY offer naked which is what I've shown above so it's easy to see everything.

Door is hinged at the bottom with a stainless steel piano hinge.

There are two 1/4" carriage bolt (square) holes in the back. They are positioned roughly 36mm from the bottom and 125mm apart. We supply the mounting hardware which is 1/4" carriage bolts, washers and Nyloc nuts...all stainless. This bolts right up to our skid plate through the small slots we have in the front near the top. The carriage bolts mount in through the back so there's no removing it from the outside.

The hardware can all be flipped around to be mounted on other skid plates or other areas...i.e. inside the rear rack. That had been done with the previous iteration as well.

Waterproofness should be pretty good...maybe not 100% but close. At least as good as before but we will hopefully refine the gasketing even more.

Sorry we won't be doing a group buy.

I don't think Torx is an option but I should know more tomorrow. There is a Philips under the seat :deal but I guess hex would be choice #2 then. It'll be pretty easy to put one under there too. Just don't lose it or you'll be chasing down a cyclist. :lol3

    Hmmm any more votes?

    Thanks everybody so far!!

    G'Day Dave,

I reckon all the above is good version two development and all on the right track to make a significantly improved version, my 02 is make it a tad higher, maybe 5-10mm might be enough.

Our current ones are a bit small for our large tool rolls even though we have two of them (one on each bike) to fill :norton. It makes putting them in past the lock tab a shove and push operation even after carefully packing the rolls to make em as small as possible.

Do you reckon it might be possible for me to marry the new lock to ours?

    G'day Mike,

Thanks for that! Hmmm...I hesitate to make it any wider as I don't want it to stick out too far on the sides.

Yes the new lock should fit into yours too. Which lock fitting is your vote?

G'Day Dave, my only comment on which lock to use comes from a travellers point of view.... so of course is biased towards long term travel.

    1) Security is only to prevent an opportunistic bastard, the determined thief will get it open no matter what. The solution is a simple but robust system, it really doesn't matter what it is, even a key lock would be OK, but probably to get a quality to stand up to the rigours of travel might add lotsa dollars and hence my initial thought was to use a thing a bit like a water tap security key.

    2) The key should be able to be kept on the key ring with the other bike keys... nothing worse than having multiple things to look after and remember when on a trip. I have a terrible memory and tend to put things down and 2 seconds later forget that I even picked them up in the first place, so I have to have a system..... keys to bike and all the other stuff in the right hand zip pocket all the time every time so for me it's important that the key is small and has a hole in it so it can be coupled to the other keys - Jesse Panniers / Zumo Key / Bike Key / Tool Box Key.

Better still have em keyed alike to the bike key, one less thing to worry about.... now there's a thought :rofl

Edit, Don't make em wider, just a tad higher.

    Nice looking progress Dave!

A locking system is preferrable... a WATERPROOF system is priority one IMHO.

    I am ready to order...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks BMW_BIKER_KEITH!!

Progress is a little slower with the moto show looming but the key lock with the cover is definitely going to be one option. A good less expensive option is amazingly tough?! I don't really know if it's needed though as the cover for the key lock should take care of any concerns (even though there have been no problems). I was thinking of the cover over the coin slot too...who would even look :lol3

The cover will be retro fitted too older tool boxes too Mike. C

Keyed alike to the BMW key. That would be big $$$ and we might have BMW knocking at the door. :chace

    Hey thanks Motoriley!

If you get a Tool Box too then we'll have to try to make "submersible waterproof"! What depth do you need...10ft.? :lol3
    I've seen you're videos! :eek1 (entertaining!)
Maybe we'll have to delay the one for you until some of the Spring melt can go away!! :deal

So we are back and catching up after the Vancouver Moto Show and we should have some more news on the Tool Boxes soon.

    Thanks!

    Nice job.

I'd like to be on the list for a black toolbox with a key.
I'd also like one of your bash plates.

Could you show a photo of this?

I wonder if it would fit on the inside of my wolfman rack and still clear the tire and tank? I really like the idea of the tool box, but am not entirely thrilled with hanging it off my skidplate.

If I remember right the wolfman hoop is 11.25x6.25, but i wonder the clearance depth?

    Thanks for the conversion!

I'll get more info up and some pics of this soon. :thumb

It should fit inside the rack but it'll depend on the rack too of course. I don't think it'll be a problem for most of the symmetrical ones.

As mentioned before too chances are it will fit on many other skid plates :huh as long as they have a flat front. So that rules out the BMW/Touratech one because it's pointed profile takes too much space away.

    More to come...

Thanks very much for the responses too you're all on the list. :deal
