I need help due to my Pig related psychological disorder . Picked up some CBR F2 rims for the Pig today to be modified for its street usage.
The F2 front will be easy to fit to your L...basically, all you have to do is shim the front bearings to fit the L axle. As for the back, you can use the F2 rear, but it is too wide to be able to use the cush drive....as a suggestion, try to find a F1 (88-89 Honda Hurricane) rear rim. It's narrow enough that you will be able to use the cush.
The battery on my L is going. Its really weak in sub 32F temps. Currently got a deka lead acid that only lasted 2 years. The bike is ridden often if not everyday never sits unstarted for more than a week. Question is which replacement should I go with. A better brand leadacid, gel cell, Lithium Ion? I dont want to do the relocation just want a battery that last more than 2 seasons. I got a Yuasa in my quad which i start 4 times a year and its been in there for three years with no problem:huh
Well Lipos are the bomb, but I moved my battery under the seat long before the Shorai's came on the scene. I've been running a stock battery for the CR-F 250 (the street legal one) for 5 yrs or so. If you're gonna keep the stock saddlebag, I'd recommend sticking with the Pb Yuasa.
Yuasa batteries are top quality......can`t go wrong with them,i`ve seen them last 8+ years......... Lithium Ion batteries do not like cold.........you have to repeatedly try starting your bike so the battery warms up before it puts out decent CCA... I`m afraid of the Shorai batteries,,lokk like cheap junk.......they work well for some,,others have sent them back repeatedly because they failed.. If,and that`s a big IF..........i was buying a lithium battery i`d try the Anti-Gravity brand.....at least it`s not offshore crap..better warranty.. But,,if you ride in cold weather,,stay with a wet battery,,better performance in the cold.. B
I owned 1991 version of the same bike. Was too much for me at first so I put a flywheel weight on. That mellowed the power band enough. After about a year, the bike seemed sluggish so took the weight off. Woo who! All that zip came right back but by now my skills had developed enough to enjoy it. The suspension had been gone through a big name firm in SOCal and was set up for senior expert desert racer. It was the best bike for rocky, desert conditions. Just point and hit the gas. Loved it. Anyway, hope you can get it plated.
The low weight and small size of the lithium is attractive ,but they also die with no warning. Lead acid gets weak before dying altogether.
My Shorai wont start my bike once temps drop below freezing... at all! Wont even crank it over. I have to use the kickstart. Of course, I dont ride when the temps are below freezing so it's not a big deal.
Any idea if the Anti-gravity 8-cell might be better in the cold? Temps around here are usually only below freezing at night for a couple weeks a year.
Same deal.all the Lithium batteries i know of suck in cold temps, Lighter than OE..........yes.......dependable..sometimes......good in cold weather..NO... I`m in no rush to buy something that will die if a paristic drain occurs...voids warranty.........i still don`t see them as an option yet.. B
I went from stock 15/45 to 14/45, which is pretty close to your change, and at my elevation (5000ft) I noticed a nice difference. It brought 5th gear down enough to pull much better, and gave me much more snap in the other gears, plus it made 2nd way more usable in the dirt. Like you said I can still cruise 70+ no problem tho......I like this gearing, nice compromise for the street and dirt
Absolutely agree. That header and those lights are gorgeous. We all wish you well with this endeavor--it is surely a boost to your morale, and will speed your recovery. I suspect that you will heal, and then spend a few years riding the snot out of this 2 stroke. Eventually you will calm down, and come back.
I always keep my bikes plugged into a battery tender when parked.....I get around 10 years out of my lead acid batteries. I use the $21 Schumacher motorcycle specific 1.5 amp smart charger/maintainers from Wal-Mart...they work awesome, and I haven't had one quit yet Plus they more than pay for themselves by keeping a single battery alive for 10 years If saving 4 1/2 lbs of weight isn't that important to you, a 60 buck agm lead-acid battery with a tender will last you forever. If you want to save the 4 1/2 lbs, you can spend 106-120 I believe for a Shoria lithium.....although I've heard they can have some quality issues. Or you can pay 150-up for some of the other brands. I opted for the lead acid agm because I've had such good luck with them, and 4 1/2 lbs didn't matter to me. Plus the lithiums don't like cold, where a well-charged lead-acid agm will fire up reliably in all conditions. I am going to try a lithium down the road tho, when the prices come down some more and the technology goes up
If you are running heated gear, or a lot of other accesories, you should stick with a lead-acid battery. Motocross manufactures batteries for Yuasu. I bought a Motocross battery for my 200cc trail bike, and it has performed flawlessly. Therefore, I encourage you to check out the Motocross YTX9-BS battery, which costs $65. http://www.batterystuff.com/batteries/ytx9-bs-motocross.html Spud
