I need to sell my Scooter and was wondering if cycletrader has given people luck? Craigslist is not working here in the PNW. I know it is a bad time to sell but there has to be someone. What about Ebay? Anyone ever solf or bought a scoot on ebay? Thanks!
Based on Craigslist and CycleTrader postings . . pretty much a "buyers market" (for this economy and time of year)! If you post on eBay, DO NOT jerk everyone's chain with an unlisted reserve price! Start with what a pawn shop would pay.
I have never sold a vehicle on ebay, what are things to be aware of? You stated to show the reserve price so that is fine. What do I need to do to protect myself from getting screwed?
I've sold scoots on ebay. The seller has less to worry about than the buyer. No bike leaves my home until paid in full. $500 deposit due within 24 hours of auction end and balance - in cash - within 7 days. Reserve the right to sell to the next highest bidder if the deposit isn't paid. Read a bunch of ebay listings and you'll see the language people use. Some people like the undisclosed reserve - say it brings higher prices. I don't like it for the reason mentioned above but have found it does get people to follow the auction. I've sold scoots people came 1000 miles for or had them shipped to them. No cost of it doesn't sell so nothing to lose.
If you have not had any luck on Craigslist and Cycletrader, then the same issues that prevented you from selling there will affect your sale on Ebay. Did you take really good pictures and have a detailed ad noting mileage, any flaws, and include a fair price? To be fair, realize you're trying to sell at the worst possible time- right after Christmas and before New Years, and in the middle of winter. I personally have sold stuff on all of those places, and Craigslist is by far the most effective (I had an amplifier listed, sold and paid for within 90 minutes of listing it). If you're in a position where you absolutely have to sell it during this time of year, I suspect you'll need to discount it heavily to get someone excited about buying it. Best of luck with your sale, Hope it works out for ya!
yeah, I can hang on to it for a little longer, I just hate paying for something that is just sitting in the garage. I bought a KLR and the scoot has been garaged for the past 10 months. I am affraid to keep letting it sit, unridden.
Try the E-Bay classified feature. It is free, allows 4 pics and reaches anyone within 100 miles of your zip code. I sold an Aprilia Mojito that way. Had to list it several times and finally got someone looking for something similar....he paid via PayPal and came and picked it up. PayPal is part of E-Bay and a good thing to have as it can accept payment for you and you can have the money sent to your bank account. They have a pretty good resolution policy I had to use once as well.
I'd wait until riding season again if possible. Last summer I sold an Xciting 250 via Portland Craigslist in no time, but I did take quite a hit on it. You might try listing it at the Oregon Scooter Club website if you're a member there.
Have you listed it on ADV? Have you listed it on Seattle craigslist? I have noticed that most folks want well over bluebook for what they have. If you price at bluebook you may get a hit. Price it at trade in value and you will sell it.
Yeah, I am expecting to take a large hit on this thing. it was $6500 and I have only 900 miles but I think I will have to sell it for around $4000 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> Are scooters harder to sell then motorcycles in general? Or are the large maxi-scooters just hard to sell and the smaller scoots are easier? Seems that there would be a decent population that wants a "touring" scoot but maybe not. <o></o> <o></o> I will try Seattle's Craigslist and that scoot club as well, good ideas!<o></o>
I am going to guess the best way to sell this for a good price is wait until spring when people want to ride. Selling it now will only insure you will get the lowest value. If you do hang on to it, I would sugges you take it out for a ride to keep the engine lubed, the gas fresh. This way when you sell it, you can say..." I got the KLR but the scoot doesn't get used enough" Can you use it a grocery getter to get some miles on it during the winter? Hang a sign on it while you are riding. If you MUST sell it today, good luck. I wish I had 4 G I could spend on a new scooter.
Gas taxes?!? You've got to be kidding. They're not really an impact on gas use and mileage based on current US rates if you read the studies (I'm assuming a guy named Memphis Slim is actually in Memphis...correct me if I'm wrong). Gas taxes in the US are almost always a set amount per gallon as opposed to a percentage of the total cost (unlike other consumer purchases). So $4 a gallon gas generates the same tax revenue as $2.49 a gallon gas. Its not the taxes that put you over a barrel, its oil speculation and pure oil company profit. Anyway, once gas hits $3.75 and above, you'll see scooter flying off the lots again.
Wow, that sounds like a great price... wish I could get it, but ..... 4k is about 1/6th what I made this year.. commission only sucks You'll sell it.... And you will get that price I bet.
Yeah, I think 4K is more then a fair price for it. I am just going to wait until spring and see what happens.
IMO, Good choice... I know it's costing you to let it sit but my guess is that you'll spend less on payments than you'll lose in selling right now. Good luck!
