I guess it would be good to know how many will attend.

I'll add a list to the first post of this thread.

That's a pretty brave move taking the spokes out of these wheels. Let's hope it's not as impossible to re-spoke it as some people say it is. Get it done, we need more Airheads:evil.

I've also just realized that Anzac Day is not on a Monday. That means I have to be back in Auckland by Sunday evening.

Good luck with the rest of the work, it's looking good.

I'll be riding with you guys in spirit:D
Hopefully I will be able to get over to your guys side next spring when it warms up - i'm about to go into bike hibernation/ stripdown mode.
Just read a thread on airheads about someone finding the front bearing locator pin in the sump & the damage it's done. I'm replacing the weeping sump gasket as soon as it arrives from motoworks& I'll be pissed off if there's one in the bottom of mine. Bugger these bikes I wish I hadn't read about it till after I had replaced the sump gasket.:lol3

I want a blow by blow of your respoking igormortis- especially the results.

Unlikley my bike will be serviceable sorry. Update on KB.
Will see how things go. At the moment I feel like taking a sledgehammer to it.
Vespa seems to keep on going though. It seems like those steady Italians understand quality.........not like those crazy Germans.

what a shit run you are having - its not as if you are just trying to do it on the cheap and suffering the consequences. Despite the fact that you own an airhead you have my sympathies - what a bitch

why would I take a step backwards?
actually as a slow road bike I'd quite like an airhead or oilhead. I'm really enjoying road riding at the moment - took Thursday off as a mental health day and did a 500km loop of the Wairarapa - was great fun but while the klr handles fine and is comfortable it's not exactly smooth and I like the low center of gravity steadyness that the beemers seem to have - just rolling easily in an out of corners.

I'll remember that next time you need a tow

Bought it (new) in November 2007. 17,500 trouble free kilometres amassed mainly on inner city trips of less than 8 km. Used 6-7 days a week, lots of two up, lots of hills and lots of traffic lights, heavy traffic and stop-start. I did not expect this, and it may not continue, but I bought it three weeks after the new BMW and the contrast has been stark (and not favourable to 21st century BMW).
Now I know it is the shock that is the problem I may be able to get the R80GS mobile again. Mike is lending me a unit today to confirm this.

Yep, certainly brave. But it’s not an impossible job for some...

    Step 1. Disassemble Wheels
Step 2. Put bits in a box
    Step 3. Send to Woody
    Step 4. Haemorrhage financially.

this is true.....they have lots of ground clearance,a nice ride, ultra tractable engine and they are really nice up to about 140...they get a bit strained after that .mine feels a bit unpredictable if the tank is full but i think its mostly i dont ride it regularly. The all road ability is a nice bonus.

After having a KLR & owning a beemer I wouldn't necessarily say the beemer is smoother or better on the road. I found the KLR very bloody good over the Takaka hill or Whangamoas - lots of foot scraping & power is heaps enough for getting tickets. The KLR has a good seat & riding position - & as a bonus a polarising style - I don't think you could ask for more:clap
I love riding my beemer & give it a good workout round here but IMO I don't think you can really compare an airhead to a conventional motorcycle. They are a cult bike first to me.

You just described a KLR to a tee.

Will have to have a decent ride on an airhead one day. Now who is the biggest bikewhore I know that has an airhead? hhmmm.

It's always here for you bro. Considering you have a very very cool bike in the garage awaiting restoration makes me think perhaps you may not be the best candidate for the ongoing fettling with an airhead.

BTW there is a cool Benelli in City mcs - old Bills (& I saw that georgeous purple 650 cafe again in the weekend)

Anyway sorry to hijack the thread.
