Thanks for the gold star but if somebody can ride around the world a 2 hr ride from Sarnia is nothing. Thnaks for the hospitality Nokumay and the best of rides for our RTW traveller.

Sorry couldn't make it. I had to go to Saginaw Mi yesterday to visit a family member.

Okay wierd start to the day. Frank Voellm left like 3 hours ago. and about 1.5 hours later I pull the bike out to go get new ownerships as I have misplaced my other ones. I ride 2 blocks to the first light, and I see an African Twin roll by. Thats a pretty rare sight in Canada.. So I check it out and as it passes, I see the plate.... another GERMAN plate. I've only ever seen 2 german plates in this county, and both were a few day apart. I hail the rider, talk a few and he is on his way to Ann Arbor. Oddly 3 hours ago Frank left and was riding right through Ann Arbor. Wierd isnt it?!?!?

Must be that the Germans stick together, and have a homming radar to find each other.

I bought my bone stock 06 in the states a few years back and after you sink about $1000 in it it is a pretty capable dual sport that you can beat the hell out of and it will keep running.

I would keep your eyes focused state side to save some $$

I'm looking to maybe hit a beginner trail on Saturday. I'm gonna be coming from London and end up in Chatham. I searched this thread and didn't find much...

Can someone highlight this trail on a map? What skill level does it require? I've done a bit of time on a dirt road and a looser gravel road. In other words, I have no experience.

Care to point out a few ones on a map for me? I'm just looking for something simple to get started with.

Pick up a copy of back roads map book and go exploring. If you come to a road that has a no exit sign. Go down it and look for something at the end. Sometimes it's only no exit for cars

You might want to catch up with Toddiscdn on the forum as well. He's had some experience with a DR.

Even if you don't do that it will still be a very capable bike,

I have bone stock, motor, suspension, etc. Lotsa mods for luggage, seat, fairing,tires, handguards etc., but thats it and I go anywhere my buddys suspension, carb, 725cc equipped DR goes, mind you Im no as graceful nor do I do the awesome wheelies he does, but it gets me there.

You can throw a few bucks at the DR and make it better or a bunch and make it much better, theres things Id like to do but Im ok with where Im at with a do all bike. Do the seat and the suspension first if you are travelling and doing off road.

Great bike , you cant go wrong, wouldn't hesitate to ride across the country tomorrow..

Hey Mark, I miised ya, was working when you showed up, then away for the weekend , then working nights.....:huh, off till sat. morn now.

What I usually do is try to get into no exit roads or unmaintainned town roads.
For example if you're going to Chatham from longwoods get a concession south/north of it and start exploring side roads.
The best trails are all hidden inbetween.
Another option would be to get riding with a couple of locals that have routine trails and start building your confidence and skill level until you can do it solo.
Remember that getting stuck somewhere by yourself not only isn't fun but can be quite dangerous if not prepared.
There are also many organized rides that cater to different skill levels that can help a lot with your skill set.

No really I had a good ride to chatham...... well I bee lined it there to bobs to get some oil filters then had a good ride back, so some side roads NE then NW towards Dawn Mills, then cider miils line to Florence is quite nice, then Mawlam and just as it turns into Forest rd there is an unmaintianed little(Tinney rd?) bit heading over to Shetland. I headed north from there, but Im thinking alot of the stuff followin the sydeham might be ok.

That area looks pretty neat. Perhaps I will bring my DR up there this weekend.
