I was flipping through ADV and I thought that I might post a link to my ride report here as sitting in a hotel with no one to talk to on the road (I am riding from Alaska to Argentina by myself as guys seems to clump together) I am feeling a little bit lonely (I am not really one of those people who thrives on their own company). So if you fancy making my day you can either post a reply on my ride report http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=428884 Or put a comment on my blog www.alaska2argentina.com Happy trails, Annette
Annette, thanks for posting the link here. I'm going to enjoy reading about your adventure. Take care and have one heck of a terrific time.
My wife will be leaving her job in March due to the economy. She's leaving for two reasons. A. I need help in the insurance office. B. If she didn't leave early a single mother would lose her job. So... my office is 50 miles away. I drive the car to visit clients since it gets 30 MPG. If I'm in the car visiting clients driving 150-200 miles per day she'll have to drive the truck @ 18 mpg. Lisa is a neat/clean freak. She doesn't want to "stink" or be messed up all day in the office. It's a quick 50 mile ride in the cooler part of the day. A nice private bath that she can freshen up in. Jeans and such are totally OK since our office is in a rural setting. What tricks of the trade have you wimmen commuters used to be "presentable" when working in a semi-professional environment? She has a F650GS and has been "sorta" riding since Jan. 08. 60 mpg would sure beat 18.
I wear "business casual" every day to work. I throw on my aerostitch over my clothes and keep a pair of shoes at my desk. I have never come to work feeling out of place. Oh, and my hair is about as boring and straight as you can get, so there's no worry about helmet hair....
As a teacher this can be tricky for me at times. I've even worn nice, dressy slacks with my MC armored pants over them, a dress jacket under my armored jacket, and MC Boots. I carry a nice pair of lightweight flats in a backpack with me. When I arrive at school I go into my classroom, take off all the "outerwear," change shoes and put my boots in my closet. Then I gear up again for the ride home. The only real concession I make in safety gear is I don't wear the cheekpads in my full face helmet when I'm wearing makeup.
Oh Zepco! That pic you posted of the 650GS!! I was surfing them today because of seeing them here last night. I think that's the perfect machine for Ms. Heidi...and she'd love a bimmer. There's a big gap to bridge...but seeing the specs and capabilities of that choice gets my head spinning. Thanks for the pix. And, Hi Tracy! Hi everbody!!
I love the ride reports ladies. Keep them coming so that I have a snowball's chance to get through this brutal winter. Julia
I'm with you on that one, I enjoy the ride reports and they do help get many of us that live in the snow through the winter. Dreaming of spring.
Hi Bill And all the ladies... I have been riding all week ... It has been down right balmy here in VA.... No real ride report... Just using the motos to go food shopping ... Have a few repairs to do on one moto... Steering head bearing is making crunching sounds:eek1 .. Hey it has 131K on it .. I guess it's aloud to go bad now ..... I'll post photos when I get into it....... For you gals in the cold states... The warm weather is coming !!! Tracy
One of the main things is hair. I have bandana's in all colours (to suit any outfit) that I keep around my neck while riding and then once I take the helmet off, I use the bandana as a headband to hide the helmet hair and hold my hair back. Other friends have taken that up and it seems to work for most, even those with hair that is not so long. It seems an acceptable fashion accessory these days.
I carry my entire outfit in my backpack along with any makeup or jewelery I want to wear for the day. Then I just put on my riding clothes with no worry about messing anything up. When I get to work, I go into the bathroom and change clothes, apply makeup, or whatever. When it's time to go home, I'll do it all in reverse. It takes about 10 minutes to change at work, so it's not like it's a huge chunk of my day.
I don't work off the farm so I don't have to commute... But just for shopping ...I don't always like to have helmet hair... Mine is a little long... A Zub is very helpful in keeping hair fluffy.. For all day riding I braid it... And don't care what it looks like after a full day of riding... Now for staying fresh ... Soap water /wash cloth does the trick there... Link to Zub wear... Zubwear
Ok learnt something new - what I call a bandana is the same as a Zub....flipping useful aren't they? Not even just helmet hair, but bad hair days too !
