We did a little series..........everytime I saw an empty road, I got the urge to get a shot like that...

The last one I tried, leaving Mammoth, I got escourted off the 395 by 3 CHP cars. OOPS!
Of course, there were no cars AT ALL and then as I get the self portrait shot almost set, up roll 3 sets of headlights... I did try to wave them by......

You know what? I really had a great, fun time!
Even though it wasn't too far from home, and only about 5.5 days total, it was the fact that I just slowed down and took the time to really enjoy my surroundings.
Something we all need to do more often.
Good for the soul.

DP - What a great trip report; thanks! Your pictures really are ace; you have a good eye. (Actually, they both seem quite nice. )

I can't decide if I like your various "texture" shots the best (most artistic) or your "ride along shots (most motivating). But all your shots are really enjoyable - except, maybe, the bug collection .

The goofy ones made me laugh. "How to land and not break your helmet" seemed particularly instructive.

Two questions: 1) Where did you REALLY take those road shots? ... Not California - no cars in sight.
2) Where did you come up with the moniker "Darth Peach"? I crack up every time I see it. Actually the names people come up with, and the quotes are almost as much fun as all the ride reports. I'm VERY jealous of the creativity of so many of you ADV riders. I've been racking my brain for a year and still no clever handle comes to mind. :eek1 Wait! maybe that's the problem: no brain, no mind, no name!!

Anyhow, DP, I'm now waiting anxiously for your next ride report. Merky Buccups!

As I read through your story, I kept thinking...

"All of this came out of a simple offer to show a fellow rider around your home base and a last-minute decision to just keep riding past the turn-off to your house.... How often do we get caught up in the routines, rather than the Carpe Diem moments..?.. This is what you risk missing out on.."
