I know he cant match the WV price but he can come closer .. The friends I ride with give him alot of business, just this week I sent 2 people down there and they both bought BMWs. He probably did not mention the warranty becuase he knows me and I am usually trading in a bike for something else before the extended warranty would take effect.lol I usualy wait until the just before the factory warranty will run out to decide, like the BMW gsa is only a year old but I have over 32,000 so I need to decide before 36k . I think the KTM will be too much fun to ever sell so I think it will also be a keeper.
I had to go to the dealership for something else today and talked with the owner about the KTM and he came down to a price which makes it worthwhile to buy local and I just could not hold out any longer, so I ordered the SMR and the akrapovic exhaust. He has to get the bike from somewhere else so I should have it by next week.
Yes he will..that's why I wanted to buy from him any accessories he installs free for me if you buy it when you buy bike...I told them no baffles and they will map it to that...I know it sounds awesome that way but just hope its not too loud to get harrassed...
Not extremely loud without the baffles, but then I have gotten used to earplugs for the SMC, and so I just go ahead and use them for both bikes. Check out the accessory crashbars while you are at it. They don't look bad for crashbars. I pitched mine UP a mountain uphill left-hander backwards, (gravel dust on grainy pavement, not visible at any distance, you know the hazards down here in Southern Appalachia), and the crashbars did their job. Picked it up and rode away just like on the SMC (except the barkbusters seem to take the brunt of it on that bike). And look at the accessory shock-preload-adjuster too. Yeah, does that come in handy! I installed mine myself, but then I have the spring compressors to do it. If he will install that for free, you should jump on it. Make sure you tell the mechanic that the lower shock mount has spreadable bushings so he doesn't beat 'em up trying to work it back in. It's a really GOOD TIGHT fit when it's all bolted back together and torqued. If you are going to install ANY of your own accessories, buying from most dealers is usually most expensive. Am I aloud to post the best place to buy KTM parts and accessories? or is that against the rules? *
Mike. I am only buying the exhaust from them because installed free and I have a $500 gift card towards ktm parts at time of purchase which they gave me for test riding their bikes at americade.lol I do plan on buying the crash bars and skid plate and probably some other stuff but I will install that stuff myself and buy wherever is the best deal...if you don't want to post just pm me the info. Thanks
Yeah, page one, post #1, of THIS thread! Also, you can go to the KTM USA website, click on models, then supermoto, then 990 supermoto R, and then accessories, if I remember correctly.
Sounds about right if you are referring to the 3 full years additional. I think you can still just get one or two years if you want. And I'm pretty sure that some dealers charge more for it than others. Or it may vary with the price range of the bike. It sure seems to help at resale time if you have even 6 months or a year left on it. Of course if you are a trader inner, that wouldn't matter to you. I had to use the extended part of my warranty on my 690. Most of my warranty problems on all the others happened in the first year anyway. But if you blow the engine in the fourth year, you'll be glad you have it. KTM is REALLY good about taking care of warranty problems in my experience. My first KTM developed a frame leak, so they replaced the frame:huh, and they did it within 2 weeks.
Thanks for the feedback on the warranty cost. I have 7 months left on my factory warranty (2008 Super Duke) and since I'm on the fence on whether to sell or not, I figured it would be an added bonus for both for me and the future owner.
******************************************************************* With this new site format, I can't seem to form links like I used to. It seems to work for some sites and not others or something. Maybe I'm trying it all wrong (Somebody help me!) For a list of 990 SM-R accessory pictures and part numbers, try following these steps: Go to www.ktm-parts.com then click on "genuine accessories" then click on "2011 powerparts street" then click on "950/990 supermoto" at the bottom of each page click "next" There are several pages. Write down the part numbers of everything you like. One of my favorites is the shock preload adjuster on the third page. Very handy. I also like the windscreen, crashbars, & bashplate. The best place to ORDER is: www.worldofcycles.com then click on "partsfinder" then click on "ktm dirtbikes" (I know, I know, just click on "dirtbikes" anyway) then click on year and model and you can see all the parts. Call Steve with part OR accessory numbers and order over the phone 1 800 860 0686. They are fast. Update: The World of Cycles website has been changed, so the process is slightly different now. Be aware that some models are missing for certain years, so you have to go to a different year (for instance there are no 690's under 2008, so you have to look under 2010. I have informed Steve of this problem, and he is looking into it). If somebody can figure a way to post those accessory pictures directly onto this thread, Please do it. Tomoto? * .
I was waiting until they got the akra exhaust put on my new SMR but they got the wrong one in and I cant wait any longer so I picked up the bike tonight and absolutely love it. . By the time they get the correct exhaust I will be ready for the first service anyway. The 30 mile trip home from the dealer ended up being 120 because I did not want to stop riding it. I informed my boss I will not be in tomorrow since it is supposed to be a perfect riding day again
