I got 60k miles out of mine. The new owner installed a cooling fan, clutch slave and a fuel pump and he's still going a year later.

I put water pumps in at 20k and 40k miles. I put a clutch slave in at 42k miles. There is an oil jet for the clutch that needs to be cleaned periodically. That gas tanks can vapor lock in traffic at hot temps. You can re-vent them easy enough.

I generally had my valves checked 8-11k miles depending on the trips I was on. Chains sets last about 15k miles. The hydraulic cam chain tensioners can suddenly lose pressure setting up a clackity clack, but they eventually pump up again.

I'd probably have the forks and shock freshened at 4ok miles. It's a decent motorcycle but the newer 990's are smoother running. FI and all.

    I have had 3 950's

First one had 47,000 miles part service history and it was a gem.

Second one had 32,000 miles no history and it was a dog!

Third and the one I have now has 25,000 miles full service history and seems to be a gem.

So I would look for a good service history if I was you.

I just bought a 60k Adv. The cam chain broke but didn't tear anything up.
I'm debating as to what to do.

    a. Top end job (needs a piston, chains, guides, tensioner, heads rebuilt)
    b. Rebuild top and bottom (same plus, I don't know what)
    c. Buy low mileage Duke and swap gears (sounds best)
    d. Get the Guru from England to send me a new one ($ but sweet)

    What would you do?

65K and it runs better than ever!
    Awesome acceleration and 50 mph...
(Yeah.. I know. you folks will doubt me, and I doubted it too, but I've been keeping close track of mileage and fuel used and I'm averaging 45mpg with E10 and 50mpg with pure-gas. Needless to say, I'm delighted!)

I'm loving my 950 adv s Johnny. Find I'm going the long route to and from work just so I can be on it longer. I defo prefer the Ktm over all bikes before it in every way. It handles on the road as well as I like it to. Off road it's as good as I am. Mine has 26000kms on it didn't have a full history. It's in great condition so that suits the milage hence me buying it.

    So far very happy.

As for BMW I sold you my R1150GS. I had owned that bike for less then six months when I sold it to you mate and you held it for less then that. It was a good bike and is still going strong but I didn't like it and neither did you so don't go there again. Ktm adv is what you want. Like me you won't be happy until u have one. I'm a happy man.

I've got about the same on the clock, 60K miles, and it runs like new, probably even better than new. Uses about .2 l of oil in 4000 miles. Aside from consumables, the occasional suspension service, I just ride it.

I have maintained it well, but I have ridden the piss out of it too, crashed, bashed and flogged. About half the miles are off pavement and off-road. The bike has not had an easy life by any means and its not pretty, its scratched and dinged to hell. Doesnt seem to bother it.

Over torqued a clutch bolt. It broke while I was on the highway and scraped against the inside of the clutch cover thus inducing a whole lot of aluminum into the motor

is it more a case that they are able get high miles just not many use them to get there

good see that well used and serviced ones seem do better than ones sitting in sheds not being used
