I'm still looking for a DR200, but can't seem to find one in my price range that's within a reasonable driving distance from me. I'm considering one with a Big Gun Evo R exhaust on it and wonder if anyone has experience with this exhaust. I cannot find a listing with an application for this exhaust on the 200, but I was sent a photo of the bike, and it looks like a clean installation. hey all, new to the thread have been lurking for a few weeks (took that long to try to read all 324 pages:) ) i bought my dr back in april of 2011 mainly for going back'in forth to work (29miles round trip flat land 55 to 65 mph) and little trips to the store and errands. i'll try to post a pic in the future of my mods. low key that they are, store bought milk crate, they seem to be bigger than real ones. i found an atv windsheild which seems to work. i have changed front sprocket to, i beleive, a 16 tooth and getting 87mpg on good days. it seems winter is not good for mpg's. i have been riding it in the low 20 degrees. so far i'm staying pretty warm other than my hands i need some hand guards and have been researching but does anyone have a recomendation? well i've talked enough
I bought cycera handguards to reduce windblast. They didn't help tbh. I then bought the big foam moose mickey mouse ear guards. Apart from making me look like a right plonker they only slightly help cut the wind blast. Next I will try some tourmaster winter elite gloves or the moose/hippo hands covers.
I've been running a set of Fly Racing Aurora gloves I picked up a while back, and they're just plain awesome. I won't wear them if it gets above about 45 degrees (Fahrenheit) because my hands start to overheat, but below that to about 20 outside they're awesome. They've got a neoprene inner cuff that goes underneath your coat sleeve, and then an outer cover you pull over your jacket and pull a drawcord to cinch down making them super windproof. Below about 25 I'll throw in a set of Tourmaster liners, and that's been fine riding down to about 10 deg (-12C). or so which is as cold as it's gotten here this year. If you've got to ride any sort of long distance in the cold I'd look into a set of heated grips as I've found that's the biggest culprit of cold hands is the bars wicking the heat away out of your palms. Also make sure you get a balaclava if you haven't yet. The difference one makes riding in the cold for your head/neck is amazing. My cold cruising setup is: Thick wool socks Alpinestars Vector boots Tourmaster Venture pants with liner (I ordered a size bigger and use them as overpants) Firstgear Kilimanjaro Jacket with liner Fly Racing Aurora gloves Tourmaster Polar Fleece glove liners Schampa Warmskin balaclava AGV GP1 helmet Depending on how long i'll be out, I may throw on another pair of socks or run a set of underarmour coldgear underneath my street clothes. Also, if you have any problems with roads not being clear soon enough for you to go out and have fun, really look into studding your tires. I took a set of old knobbies and ran 1/2" long hex head sheet metal screws into some of them to make 2 rows of studs. I've run mine about 500 miles (unfortunately a lot of just pavement because of the heat wave), and they've been fantastic. The biggest thing is to not put too many studs in or you'll make dry pavement scary to ride on. Stay safe! -M
can anybody tell me where the turn signal flasher is located on the bike ? I did not see one under the seat, or behind the headlight cover. Also, a wiring diagram would be nice if anyone can tell me how to access one online maybe. I have some Extra wires that I do not know where they are supposed to go. 2 up front, and 2 under the seat. The 2 under the seat are attached to the starter relay, but go nowhere. those I plan on removing. The 2 up front go into the harness.
if its not completely burned out it will click when activated so listen for it you should be able to hear
I am not even sure it is there. Someone had removed the turn signals. I am putting new ones on, I have at least located the turn signal wires so far. I got one light that I put on to light, but not flash. Maybe I need to wire up all 4 (or at least one side) before it will attempt to flash. I was doing this last night after midnight. So I gave up for the day. I looked at the wiring harness on the part diagrams, but I do not see anythign that looks like a relay on there either. I know what it is supposed to look like.
I found the flasher. It was behind the air box, and it was not working. Since the OEM flasher is very expensive, I decided to try an old school car flasher that I had laying around, and it seems to work fine.
When one bulb is blown out on one side, the blinkers will not flash. The intact turn signal just comes on steady. The flasher may be still working. You don't know until you have both turn signals hooked up, if you haven't done that yet. I bet the flasher is fine.
All 4 brand new turn signals were hooked up last night. All 4 lit up, but did not flash. I swapped flasher relay and they worked immediately. I even swapped back just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but indeed the relay is shot. Next is to figure out why the horn does not work. And the front brake light switch. I guess that's why I consider this a Project bike. My new Used seat is coming today, to replace the currently heavily damaged one. Can't wait !
i have a 2001 200 and the starter sounds like its coming apart when you start it, any ideas, bike runs good just a little cold blooded
Been some discussion regarding the turn signals on the DR200 being too wide and subject to breakage on the inevitable dirt nap when ridden hard...... Here's what I've tried. Ordered a set of stock rear turn signals for a DR350, late 90s version. They look exactly like the DR200 signals except they're 1.5" shorter. Here's a pic for comparison: The stock turn signals are very stiff and don't have much flexibility. These have quite a bit of flexibility and may not be official Suzuki issue. I paid just under $40 shipped to my house. They tuck under the Cycleracks rack my wife has on her bike and I do not expect any damage if (when???) this bike takes a rest...... We're very pleased w the look and now have the stockers for spares. I will probably order a set for my bike just because of the esthetic improvement. Chuck
I would disassemble the starter and check the bearings and brushes.If all is well with that,check the starter clutch behind the charge rotor.I had a starter clutch failure on one of my Suzuki's and it spun the starter apart when I left the gas station.It locked my engine up and almost caused me to go down.Once I pulled the starter the engine would turn over manually.Scared the holy hell out of me.I had no warning of an impeding starter clutch failure, except a little unusual noise that developed when I would hit the start button. Any more info on the Ricochet bash plate? I didn't know anyone made a plate to fit. I had one fabricated. When I Google Ricochet, all I get is ATV bash plates. Can you recommend a supplier? EDIT: Found it under cyclebuy/MSR. $98.95.
Has anyone here owned a tw200 as well as a dr200? I'm really liking the tw200 right now, just wondering how they compare?
Haven't owned one, but have extensively studied and wanted one. Even more compromised for the street but great for off-road plunking around, especially in wet areas.
I don't know of any tank swap for that bike. I've heard that tires are scarce, but people fit ATV tires instead of motorcycle tires.
