I use my old 2720 in the Jeep. It is great for "take me to X address" or "take me home" kinds of stuff. Anyway, this morning I heard the telltale screen touch click (except it hadn't been touched) and it was as though someone had dragged the map a little, as there was the Back button. Any way, I returned it to the live scrolling. This happened a few more times and then the screen went into a calibration mode where it was all blue with two perpendicular lines and it asked me to touch the dot. I would do this, but then after one or more, it would not recognize that I had touched it. When I powered it off, it came back up normally, but then started with the self-made screen touching and then calibration. Any idea what gives? I would hate for this unit to go belly up on me, but as of right now it is pretty useless.
Mine has done that a few times, seems to be a moisture issue (but I am not positive of that). I took mine apart and dryed it out with a hair dryer. Seems to be fine now. Garmin no longer supports these units.
Hmm. Well, this 2720 has been in a Jeep in a garage, so hasn't seen any direct moisture in a very long time. And, there is no screen protector on it either.
I had a similiar problem with my 2610. The film protecting the screen was starting to bubble. This cause somewhat random pressue points against the screen which cause the device to do all kinds of crazy stuff. My soluction was to peel away the protective film. Worked fine after that.
Interesting. Were there any visual clues that that was going on? I mean could you see the peeling? I looked at my screen in the sun at angles and could see nothing different in any area. FWIW, I did a master reset before leaving the office yesterday and, knock on wood, that seemed to fix it, but I am not sure I trust it.
Yes, I could see the bubbles. If you are not seeing any problem with the screen then your problem is likely different.
When mine would freak out I would turn it off and lightly rub the screen up and down and cross ways all over, this usually help for a while. Then I bought a new screen off fleabay and it's like new now. I think the screen was like $26.00
Last week, my SP2720 doing the exact behaviour SP2720 run screen calibration, i touched with my barely finger well its pass but its going crazy again the second time showing screen calibration, i use small tips to push those dots precisely, and lucky BACK to NORMAL :)
Interesting info, guys. Thanks! So far (fingers crossed, knock on wood) the master reset seems to have cured the problem. I will use CRTR's approach of small items to poke the calibration points, if this happens again. I hope I won't have to go the route that Treestrom did, but will if I have to.
