The Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 weighs (curb weight) 539lbs - 570lbs depending on which motorcycle website is quoted.

I rode the Triumph 800 XC a few times - almost bought one as a second bike. I'm surprised by the numbers here - It didn't feel that heavy.

The BMW doesn't feel that heavy either, but that's possibly because of a low C.G.

The XC doesn't feel so heavy until you have to pick it up.

Nah.. he means a XC version of the 1200, like the 800 vs 800XC. Looking for wire wheels & larger front. Hoping for a larger tank. I'm skeptical myself. Wont happen this model year or they would have announced it.

Twat Suit is a British term I first saw used in British Magazines over ten years ago. It generally referred to BMW GS riders. The UK is far more class conscious than the US ... so part of that attitude leans on those who can afford a $2000 usd riding suit.

I hope you get the chance to get out there and travel a bit. I don't get too tired if I'm not picking the bike up a lot. But I ride quite a bit and am used to doing 250 to 300 mile days on my DR650.

Getting in "riding shape" helps a lot to prepare for a longer trip. Hit the gym, ride dirt bikes, run, lift weights, swim ... it all helps prepare you. Do what ever you can ... but riding is best, IMO.

Track days also really help. If anyone thinks riding the racetrack takes no strength or endurance ... I suggest you're not trying hard enough! :deal Track work is 100% exhausting ... but will do SO MUCH for your road stamina on your big trip. It will also make your road awareness much better and really helps sharpen all your riding skills. All this training will allow you to relax .... and ride much further with less fatigue.

I don't doubt that you are able to get good mileage on a Versys! I just don't. I get 45 if I'm lucky. Down to 39 on some tanks. As high as 54 when I have the wind at my back. Course I have a bigger range than you do cause the bike's not stock...

On UKGSer the 'twat suit' refers to the high-end BMW branded gear.

I didn't realize that term had been around that long, I had never heard of it before,I thought you had just made it up and I could,nt stop laughing.:rofl Learn something new everyday.

Mostly during the winter I use an Aerostich roadcrafter suit to commute to work in and have been called a Power Ranger before but a twat suit is a new one on me. Thanks for the info. :lol3

So if a fella buys patches or pins for this fancy suit...would those be known as "toys for twats"?

    Sorry...I couldn't resist.

Is the suit that you are referring to the Rallye.....or would any suit a GS rider might have that you cannot afford be called that also?

Okay this has the distinct feeling of turning into handbags at five paces here... And Ladies it's seriously not worth it. I have a Twat Suit and although I don't wear it much I get the joke and can laugh at myself. If we can't poke a little fun at each other without people getting pissy then what is the point of any of this anyhow? Laugh at the joke or ignore it then move on.

The biggest question is whether it's still a "Twat Suit" if I wear it on my WR250 when riding through the desert or only on the GS in front of Starbucks ... :lol3

And the other thing is: I like Starbucks on trips. They normally have cleaner restrooms and better coffee than gas stations.

I'd say it's a Twat Suit if you wear it more as a fashion accessory then a necessity. Definitely a Twat Suit if it's like 90% of the GS's that never have actually seen dirt or been drop in 6 inch deep mud or sand.
