I am going to book my hotel today for the motogp weekend and hopefully beat any price increase. Can any of the locals tell me what side of town the track is on and where there might be a relatively nearby cluster of cheapish hotels? Thanks
If you're not wanting to stay downtown, you might look at Georgetown, Round Rock and San Marcos. All are within easy driving distance. You might consider downtown, though. Austin is a great city with a really cool nightlife. The food and music are world class.
Well the Red Roof Inn in Austin has rooms for $516.66 per night for the F1 Weekend. Hope they choke on it!! MotoGp weekend is still $59.99. Wonder if they would cancel and raise the rates later?
Can they really cancel your room after you've already reserved it? That would be fucked. I made reservations at some place kinda close to the track. With tax etc.. it was about $210 for 3 nights.
Don't know if they can. Let us know if they do though. Good Luck. Would have loved to gone to the F1 race, but those room rates are just stoopid! Just for grins I checked the KOA near their. $100.00 a night with a 4 night minimum. That's a tent space.
I was living Monterey the year Moto GP came back to Laguna Seca. Hotels did raise rates/overbook and or cancel on people who had made reservations way in advance.
I really am sorry I can't afford to go!! The track is really starting to look like a fun track for the drivers and spectators.
There are quite a few amatuer vids on youtube, but this is about the best one. <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FBUhkrCttQU?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FBUhkrCttQU?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> Nothing professional that I could find as of yet.
More vids trickling in. These are official from COTA. http://circuitoftheamericas.com/art...s-christens-new-track-with-first-lap-ceremony
You will LOVE it For me, the noise (and the hair are standing up on the back of my neck just thinking about it) of a Formula 1 car passing you for the first time at full tilt will stay with you forever. Enjoy
It is worse than that, you will be hooked forever. You will find yourself staying up all night so you can watch a race in Asia live. You will be planning trips to far away locations....make the first one the Belgian GP. Now to indoctrinate you properly, you must cheer for the Red Cars. You will need a 2x3 meter dancing horse flag. Every time they come by you have to give that cowbell all it can take. And if you are behind a Red Bull fan, you need to knock them off their feet with your airhorn every time they stand up. Consider it your DRS. Have a great time....
:huh I don't think so old bean....everyone knows JB is the man to root for (whoever he drives for) and if you MUST root for a team, it has to be that last bastion of a true F1 team, Williams.
