Just got word from my local dealer (Dallas/Ft.Worth) that they're expecting the NC in next week. I didn't ask how many he has coming but he's a Powerhouse dealer so I'm assuming he'll have at least 2 initially.

It is tough to try and really put your finger on how these things and decisions work, eh?

I *almost* feel bad for them though, as it's verging on a Kobayashi Maru type outcome. (no win scenario) Honda, for the most part, got slagged by everybody for "flooding" the market with too many bikes, and then selling them at mega discounted prices, offending both owners of pre-discount bikes, and other manufacturers (read: Harley) resulting in Tarriffs, cc restrictions, etc. and various dealers having too much stock on the floor with not enough sales.

The sorry for them bit goes right out the window though, with their insane choices of what machines to bring (DN-01, etc.,) and no CB1100's, for example. Did they seriously believe that North America would buy DN-01's but no CB1100's? That's just demented.

Ya, Honda Canada will import DN-01's but they won't bring in the DCT model 700X. Idiots!

Despite easy and quick availability here, I have to wonder how well they're selling in Japan. I'm a truck driver and consequently spend most of the day on the road....and I've only seen two of them on the road here.

I recently went to a racing circuit and the bike attracted quite a lot of attention from the people there; they had never seen the model or even heard of it. It was sort of interesting to walk over to my bike from the pit area and find a gaggle of people surrounding it discussing it. And the reactions when I popped open the storage area were priceless. This being a country with tons of bike commuters they all instantly "got" the appeal of that built-in storage area. It certainly has made my commuting easier. Now I just easily drop in what I used to have to strap to the seat. And since we have a "rainy season" that largely overlaps the riding season, it is nice having my rain gear right there at hand. One more thing I don't have to strap on the seat every day. And since when I go to work I never know on what day I'll return or what the weather will be, the rain gear must be there every single time.

I have yet to spot an NC700S or an Integra on the road here.

update: Short term, they're getting 4 manuals and 2 DCTs. (He didn't have a ship date on the DCT models.)

Mine is going to be released from the Honda warehouse that serves the SE USA next Friday 7/20/12. This warehouse is just over 20 miles from the dealer holding my deposit. Oh joy.

My career has been in account management in a trucking company and in the last 20-odd years I have been in the warehouse many times during times when we have been a carrier contracted to transport Honda products to dealers. The offices are in a separate part of the building away from the space where product is stored. So this week I was in the warehouse meeting with the facility manager on a regular business call. During conversation I mention that I am buying a new motorcycle that Honda has not officially released and asked if he knew if the model was in the warehouse and if it was shipping to dealers starting the 20th. He replied in a professional practiced way that Honda was very strict about releasing information and that I would have to call American Honda in Torrance, CA for that information as he could not tell me anything. He went on to say that dealers often try and get information on available stock so they have to refer every question like this to Torrance. The entrance to the warehouse space itself is secured and you have to pass thru a locked entrance but the door is chain link fence so you can peer through it at the stacks of crated bikes beyond. Unfortunately the stacks in view when I walked out were GL1800's. As I was being escorted I couldn't really stop and get a good look past the Goldwings but you can bet your bippy I wanted to. I have to wait and see like everyone else.

Just got notified that DFW Honda (Dallas/Ft. Worth) will be getting both models - 4 manuals and 2 DCTs next week. The DCT model is going to be referred to as the NC700XD.

Sorry but.... JEzzzBus that thing is fucking ugly. Don't sneak up on people with that thing in other bike's threads. You'll scare the children. :)

??? What are you guys talking about. That is a great bike too. You never see one for sale used unless it has 40,000 miles on it.

    Ha!

It is not a pretty bike, for sure. I like the concept and the engine...but it looks like designers put a model until it melted like a chocolate bar in the sun.

And what is with that big spread of cheap looking black plastic on the side...covered with a big warning sticker? Ugly. I wonder if that plastic will turn all whitish and chalky after five years.
