Vic - when I installed the power commander on my DL1000, it was a TIGHT fit trying to get my big fat fingers up into where they needed to be. You may want to take the tank off... it might make that op a lil easier.

    YES! What Pete says.

Also, while you have the tank off, change your air filter.
Here's a must read "How to change your air filter on a VStrom" website.
Changing the air filter requires taking the fairing/tank off.

    1. I think therefore I am (Cogito ergo sum)

    5. If it has threads, it needs locktite or anti-sieze. (there's no in-between)

    6. If it floats, flies, or fux, you're better of renting it.

    It has always been thus.

I'm hyper-skeptical about these devices and wonder if anyone has done a genuinely objective test on 'em. Other than the manufacturer, of course, whose 'objectivity' is coated with self-interest.

They are all the rage down at the Harley shop: all of my Harley-riding buds swear by them. Given the "loud pipes save lives" and the "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand" credo/culture found in those circles, it seems to me that skepticism is demanded.

When I enounter 'em on a used bike, I put 'em on eBay for a c-note and throw in shipping.

Hal, The DL1000 has a known lean condition that causes surging around 3500 rpm. Often made worse by the install of sweet sounding pipes. What I did with the PC on mine was add a little extra fuel in the midrange to eliminate this surging. Worked like a charm. I also had a "let-r-rip" map that was pretty aggressive, but fuel economy suffered. When Dr.Z bought the bike it was set up on the just a little extra fuel in the mid range, and down low. Made the big bike snappy off idle, and cruise smooth on the road. top end was pretty much stock because it loved to be short shifted so I never really saw the upper end of the tach. Dunno if Eloy has played with it much since he's had it, but he hasn't wanted his money back- yet :lol3

I haven't screwed around with it at all. The bike runs great and usually averages 40-42mpg.

I havent had a chance to try anything new yet! I did hook up to computer to see that existing map was wrong for my bike as far as the NOTEs go. I figured out how to change maps to one with at least my year bike and aftermarket exhause but havent tried it yet since bike is apart but going bac to gether soon.

I do know the JD Tuner made a huge difference in my 5 hunny.... But I am still temped to play with it... much easier than fiddling with jets and needles...

    Up date later...
