anyone heard of a Vstrom DL650 having handle bar vibrations?

Hi All

I did own a wee strom for 5 years and although the stock grips are uncomfortable (remedied by Grip Puppies) I had no vibration or very little compared to my Yamaha TT600.

Now I have a chance to buy one in the States but the guy says he suffers from vibrations of the handle bars........ Should I be worried by this ??

I've seen a few people complain. I've had three and I don't understand it. Maybe it's an extension of some crash bar harmonic vibrations but I've never had a hint of a problem. I do replace my grips with larger diameter HotGrips though.

I have never heard of it and as I am coming over and buying the bike for a 12 month tour of the States, I was slightly wary......maybe its something I can sort out when I get there

...can make for grip vibes.

Every bike is different, and most V-Strommers mod their bikes and all the different bars and pegs and such can produce varying degrees of added vibes.

I found that just tightening the bolts that attach highway pegs to my Pat Walsh crash bars eliminated some extra vibes that they imparted to the bike.

The stock V-Strom is pretty darn smooth.

I am new to the VStrom game, I noticed a slight resonance from 4800-5100 rpms. Nothing like some of the Thumpers I have had. I added TourTech hand guards that remove the bar weights. But I added grip puppies and I really don't see much of a difference.

Its got to be better than the TT600 that I went round the world on in 2012 !! now that vibrated

I have the Givi crash bars. They are like tunning forks. I don't feel it in the bars, but elsewhere. I have found that I can loosen them and retorque them, and change the harmonics. So stand to reason that at some point I would feel them through the bars. I can look down at the crash bars, at certain RPMs and they are just a blur of vibs.

only after installing the oem crash bars , nothing to serious , vibrates a bit around 4500rpms, I have the 2012 wee.

My 1k always vibrated and shook its head around with Tourances. Switched to Anakees, problem mostly solved. It would get a little buzzy if i cruised at over 5k rpm. Nothing major. Aluminum bars and fat grand touring grips kept me comfy.

All my experience is with the vee, but balancing the cylinders made a world of difference in smoothness. My crash bars vibrate a little - can only tell when I touch them. There's a small bar that fits inside the crash bar to connect the left/right sides. Some thing it is/was a problem so I put some gasket maker on the bar. Not sure if it did anything, but I had some extra sitting around.

When I start to think my wee strom vibrates too much I break out my 1978 Yamaha. It puts everything back in perspective.
