I'm not a big cush drive fan, but I don't spend much time onroad. If I have to go into the motor every 15K miles. That is just fine with me for a bike like this.
The procedure was much as I indicated. I cut out about 2 - 2.5 in of the fuel line in the straight area below the bend & replaced it with this filter... The part number appears to be...34162...as best I can tell. About 1.0 in dia, Autozone, maybe $5. Sorry about the dirt, It was a good ride sunday! So far, so good...
Meg wants to go tomorrow, but I put her off till Friday, I'll be working hard trying to keep the kid wonder (my nephew) in line as he howls at my pain the way we howled at his tire changing ability. Let see pics of the 5.3 tank Toddles. Antonchu, we need to talk, I do like the idea of extra volume and cooling. Thing is I've never done anything like that and don't know how all that would effect oil pressures, haven't looked into any of that yet and would hate to get it wrong. Harcus, do you know the specs on the filtration on that one, the ones we were finding are 35 micron.
18.3 hours and conducted my second valve check. noticed the wear in the pictures on the rocker rollers. Not deep enough to feel with my nail but a little concerned. What says you.
I'm not sure the 500 EXC needs one. It doesn't have split oil sumps anymore. The only reason for the oil cooler really was for the extra oil capacity. I will let you know after the next 2 weeks. I just sold my 530 and got a new 500.
Oh crap, I was going to do that. Forgot. The tank looks very nice. I think it will do just fine on the bike. I quickly held it up and it seamed skinnier than the shrouds are. I have a technical singletrack ride this weekend then I have to check my valves....blah...blah after that. So I will install the 5.3g tank and get some pictures out for everyone. But initial impression is VERY NICE! I know that Goo-roo-lay will be bummed that I won't ask him for gas anymore.
I'm still waiting for the 13/50 sprockets to arrive, so I can't yet answer your question. All I can say for now is that 15/45 is too tall for anything I want to do ont he bike. I am a little bit concerned about a 13-tooth countershaft wearing out more quickly, as someone else mentioned. So I might, in the end, go with 14/50 or 14/48; but I'll start the experiment with 13/50.
Yeah, it would be nice to have a diagram of the oil circuit. I have seen a realy nice one of the 690's motor floating around. A couple years ago I raced on a 560 RFS (converted to 21/18) that had the top-tube of the frame sealed up and used as an oil tank. It was a trick bike and great for Baja. I'll be pumped that our rides will be so long that I'm Mooching of you! Admittedly, this will be for a special application. Heavens to Betsy! No ATGATT?? shame on you both!
I am on the waiting list and just received an email from him saying that they are two weeks out for the sporckets, I will be buying one for my supermoto set up to try out. The earlier designs had some issues with the rubber /cush squishing out, but the customer service was good from what I read and the newer design is supposed to be holding up very well (different kind of bonding agjent for the urethane and better prepping). Last update I read was a guy on supermoto junkie(i think) and he had about 1000 miles on it and still holding up. Figured I would try one see if it works. Just waiting for him to get some made. BTW just received my skid plate from Globetrottin very impressed with the craftsmanship, I think you could use this thing as a bucket on a bobcat tractor. I will be buying the rack set up for my 500 in a few months for sure.
Oh he was ATGATT.. but short of wrapping him in bubble wrap.. it is still going to hurt when your body scribes a 15 foot arc through the air and then gravity slams you on the ground
Just looking at simple physics, I have no idea how the dampers in the Kush sprockets could work anywhere near as well as the 100 times bigger rubber cushions that are used in the hubs, neither from a functional nor a longevity perspective. People are already reporting problems with the Talon rubber donuts not lasting well, and those are many times as large as the Kush dampers.
I agree with you, in the fact that they are not going to work as well as a cush hub. But there is a nitch out there of people who do not want to buy kush rear drive due to the price tag on them and the fact that the kush or no-kush discussion is almost as broad as oils to use. I think alot of people who do not want to spend the money on a cush drive may spend the $ for a kush sprocket. I myself am torn between a kush drive system and non. I figured $100.00 for a sprocket vs $80.00 for a non kush sprocket was worth a try to see how the product works. If it works decent its is still better than no kush IMO. Being in the automotive repair industry I see alot of urethane bonded to steel and to composites that are just about one with the other. Very Very difficult to remove. Alot of the panels know a days on your vehicle are epoxied together and are actually stronger than welded panels. Figure I'll test one, find out and give you guys a Siskel and Ebert. If I ever get one
Sorry if this question been up several times earlier. And sorry for my English. But here we go. Witch is the best after market full exhaust system in titanium? Akrapovic? FMF? Any other? Considering price/performance and weight? I have the "sixdays" edition and it have some stock titanium slip-on but I want more. I'm going to put on a scale so I get an idea of the weight save. And any more tips on "must have" things? Gonna make a big order from USA since the dollar is so cheap.
Nope but a little rack on the back was a must for me. I put on a Pro Moto deal. It's stout and comes off with 2 bolts. The slick part is that the mounting bracket stays on but tucked under the plastic . It's real strong - I use it as a tie down point for the back of the bike when it's being hauled. No problem holding a fuel cell. http://www.promotobillet.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24_82&products_id=690
just as a side note that is a carb fuel filter and is probebely a 40 micron That is too large of a opening for FI you need to get it down to less than 20 to really be effective. the factory origianl one is only a 10 micron I believe.
I was diverted off the road by a deer on Sunday or maybe bumper cars is more appropriate. I had a call into Paul sunday evening. The only damage to the Bike was the left hand guard got ripped off, the bike fell on me so nothing else was damaged. I was ATGATT but have since upgraded the knee pads as the ones I had didnt hold up too well. I could post pick but its not a competition, hey Paul if you hae a spare Case or two of advil how about sharing. I have to say if you guys want the absolute best in bar guards you need to make the leap to Highway Dirt Bikes. These things are Billet proof!
I am a big fan of the Cush drives form my LC8 days. I contacted Woodys and got a set for my XCW. It was a little odd at first the XCW downest quite have the torque of the OLD SE but after five minutes I was in love all over again.
