The gaggle of Android based tablets which are coming to market. Such as the Samsung Galaxy series which has a 7" and 10" tablet. ViewSonic, Toshiba, bunch of others. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QH2QPr-D_JU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QH2QPr-D_JU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Yeah. The Galaxy is going to be sold through the phone companies. I'll pass. The Toshiba probably isn't coming to the U.S. and the Viewsonic is anemic at best. Hell, smartphones sport a more powerful processor than the Viewsonic. Any WiFi only options?
Not sure yet, but I see rumors about wi-fi only Galaxy. I use http://www.androidcentral.com for my Android news. I like the 7" form factor. It's actually pocketable. Surprisingly, flash support is going to be a major factor with the tablets despite what Apple may say. You get your games, porn, and all other stuff just like a full browser.
Ah! Thanks for the link. Yeah. I think the 7" form factor is going to be a winner. Big enough to see, but small enough to really be portable.

Dell confirms 7" android tablet http://gizmodo.com/5645166/dell-confirms-7-android-tablet-in-the-works
this seems to be occurring more and more, the longer the development time for some of this bleed edge stuff the more likely it is outdated before it is even released. My companies will just release a non 100% complete project just to keep the thing going, apple ipad for example.
I knew that as soon as the ipad was announced. I have carried a touch everyday for a couple of years. I want to be able to drop me ipad in my pocket, not for all day, but for when I get interrupted, to not just leave it on the counter.
Yeah. Android 1.6 or something. Everything else is Android 2.0 and they're trying to cram 2.1 in the others in spite of Google's assertions that 2.1 isn't really made for tablet-type devices.
actually just over 70% of devices are now on 2.1 or 2.2. source http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html
Dunno. Check over on XDA those guys hack everything in the android world. If it were me I'd just pick up one of the new archos tablets. They're releasing 5 new models over the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure there's a 4.8" screen in there and knowing them it will cost around $250-$300. engadget story links for archos tablets. http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/31/archos-unleashes-five-five-new-android-froyo-tablets-we-go-h/ edit: removed useless link
archos 7 info.... Want Archos 70 ($274.99, mid-October) - Sure, the Archos 70 is more expensive than the previous Archos 7 Home Tablet, but we'd be willing to shell out the extra cash for the added functionality. The 70 is similar in form factor to the Home Tablet -- it's just .4 inches thick and weighs only 11 ounces -- but it's now got a capacitive screen, accelerometer and will have Android 2.2 when it ships. That's pretty every single thing we asked for when we reviewed the 7 Home Tablet. The 70's screen was obviously much more responsive and the accelerometer was quick to adjust an e-book. Unlike the 43, the 70 doesn't have a camera on the back, but it does have a front-facing VGA cam that apparently will work with some preloaded video chat apps. This one also has USB and mini-HDMI out ports.
Again, thanks for the links! I'll probably end up with something more like one of the Archos 7"-ish tablet. I really want some type of tablet thingy. I have an iPhone and really, really like it, but I also want to try the Android platform, but don't want to switch phones.
