I installed a new Pirelli Rallycross on the front of my 450 EXC in half the time and 1/3 the effort of using irons.

Used an iron once to help get the first bead over the rim-lock, then a bead buddy to hold the second bead down in the dish. After that.....blip, blip, blip....that beoch was on like Konkey Dong

is anyone here planning on using this tool with 17" road wheels/tires?

Everything I see is offroad spoked wheels w/tubed tires (not that it should matter outside of diameter)

It should work fine with tubeless tires. And is certainly better than tire irons, even with plastic rim protectors. I have a home made tire machine and I use that with a mount/demount bar for all my street bikes, but my bar isn't perfect for Excel rims. I plan on using this tool for my Excels and especially anything with tubes, so basically dirt bikes and motards (for me anyway).

The advantage to a GB is everyone's buying the same thing basically, all the packages fit in a bigger box and we split the shipping. The International shipping is what influences the cost the most, but we can check and see how it would work. I'd love him to ship me a pair of 17's for the XR, he or someone over there builds some sweet SM wheels. But my CFO said it ain't gonna happen, that without even knowing the price

Several inquiries regarding the adapters. here's what I think I know.


The tool comes with a 20 mm rod (which will fit for example, a DRZ with a 20 mm axle).
There is also a 25 mm sleeve to shim it for a larger axle.
An optional 15 and a 17 mm adapter are available for smaller axles, I'm thinking 200-250 cc dual sports / dirt bikes, or even a KLR. There is also an optional "pusher rod" that is shorter than the one in the kit, I'm thinking mini-bike or scooter??? Are did build 1 special adapter for croc, and it was only like a couple more bucks than the standard optional adapters.

You just need to verify the axle sizes for the wheels you would be working on. It seems to me, after playing around with my tool (that's "tire tool") that you could make a simple sleeve if you needed something between 20 and 25, or bigger than 25. And I'm not sure it would hurt if there was a little play, say you were using a 25mm adapter but your axle was 28mm. YMMV.

Has anyone used this on a 21 front? Is it long enough? That's the other question I've had, but I haven't tried a front yet. I'm building a 19 to replace my 21, but it looks like it will work on a 19, if I ever get to that part.

With a 990adv 30mm axle / front 21" and without proper adapters, it is barely long enough. I am thinking about adding another inch to it...

are you losing 5 mm because of the 25 mm adapter in the 30 mm ID bearing? If you just shimmed the rod (adapter) would it work?

What was/is the total cost for the tool and adapters and shipping?

See post 157. I think it worked out to 114 for just the tool, delivered TYD. The actual cost depends on the price of the tool, exchange rate at the time, and how many (determines shipping) you order.
