After the trip are you going to start living in a van down by the river?

This should be fun to follow. A couple thoughts are that with 3 gallon fuel capacity, your range will be more than necessary between all gas stops. The CT90 will get close to 90 mpg, so you could jet them pretty rich in order to handle the higher elevations (12,000 ft passes). My KLX250 struggles on some of the Colorado passes. Another thought is that you have some steep inclines to traverse. Have you thought about alternate sprockets for the high country. You don't have to worry about top end, so gear down lower.

Yes, we have thought about bringing a smaller front sprocket with us. Also, we will be taking different jets with us. Fuel will be ok with the stock tank and the auxilary tank.
We are building the bikes exactly the same so only minimal spare parts will be needed and can be distributed between everyone.

I never heard of anyone doing the TAT in reverse. My experience is that doing any trail in reverse is like riding an entirely different trail. Have you touched base with Sam to see if he has any thoughts? You can shit can the roll charts.

I've read several "little tiny bike" ride reports and they have all been real interesting. I'm sure this one will be too. I'll be following along.

Air is thinner at high elevations so SMALLER jets are needed to keep the same air/fuel ratio. Carry spare spark plugs just in case you foul a few up high.
I've got a trail 90. I hope your seats are better than stock. Sounds like a fun trip even if you don't make it all the way.

Someone once said: adventure starts when things go wrong. Well, you are starting on the wrong end of the trail, with the wrong bikes, with the wrong engine and parts, and quite a cast of characters. I am soo jealous, I am rebuilding a 1972 CT 90. I just came in from priming the fender and some small parts and see this....daamn what fun. You guys have the bikes I am building and a trip to boot yea!!! I have some parts in SE Idaho if ya need something pm me I'll see if I have it and if it works.

This is the prototype bike. Rolled it in after working till 830 tonight. Pulled the front end and prepped for the new suspension.

Cutting the CT90 top bearing cap smaller to use on the XL125 stem. Called it a night after this.
