I was wondering if you had read his book. He is my hero and gave me a lot of insights into long distance riding when I was a youngster. I met him once and he was as kind and helpful in person as he was on the page. A great shame he, like the rest of us, had to die.

I'm guessing the canyon between Kabul and Jalalabad. I drove it back in the good old days (1973) in a VW van.

So it has been a while and some things have changed here. Anyways the preparations on the Vespa are pretty much all finished. Besides, last week we bought ourselves a car. The car will be a Lada Niva! :D

    Here are some pictures.

    The engine has been revised:

And the vespa was put back together again:

And now I am testing and running it in. I did 750km already and it is running and driving just fine! :clap

And a picture of our magnificent car! :D

In the meantime we are busy with the visums and other preparations. Only 7 weeks left!

Unfortunately I haven't read it... I absolutely love old stories of people doing round the world trips.

I am not doing everything in the old way and thus I did mount a navigation:

Last week I mounted some racks in order to get my stuff along. I will post pictures soon.

Here some pictures for people who love engine rebuilds. I took the engine apart, replaced all the bearings, replaced the crankshaft, replaced the clutch plates, replaced cilinder and piston etcetera etcetera. I only used original piaggio parts.

The engine is running very well and has a very good fuel consumption, about 1l on 30km. :) It is also very smooth and runs quite easily 100km/hour.
