OK Bill, let's get one thing straight right from the start. You might call that a road, and you posted some pretty tame pictures to give people that impression. Was I on a different road?

For a place that has next to no information online about anything but water access we managed to find road signs. Local knowledge I guess. Here's Bill leading the way.

Might not look like much to many of you inmates but for me it was the most intense off-road riding I've ever done. I loved it! To be fair though neither of us knew what we were getting into that day. Now we do.

Started to look more like this in short order.

I didn't feel like it was the right time to be taking many pictures that day since I was starting to hang on for dear life once we hit "The Road".

I did come back to Yelapa via water taxi with my girlfriend and we're still here, until tomorrow that is. Wanting some pictures we hiked back out to the road for a bit and stuff like this is what Bill didn't have in his collection of pics.

I'm currently on a snails pace ride southbound from Ottawa Ontario to Tierre del Fuego. I had the real pleasure of hooking up with Bill in Sayulita Mexico. I'd been turned on to the idea of going to Yelapa a few years ago by a dearly departed friend who used to love it there and I wanted to find out what all the fuss was about.

Having to deal with rocks and sand and washouts etc. this day gave me some good experience getting off the pavement for the rest of my ride.

Bill does guided day trips out of Sayulita and when I suggested that I'd like to try and find this back road into Yelapa that I'd only heard about he didn't hesitate to try and find it and take me in. There's next to nothing on the internet about this route so Bill worked his Google Earth magic and somehow turned it into a GPS track.

Bill knows the area well, is a mapping expert, speaks Spanish which was really helpful since I don't (yet), and is a damn fine off-road rider and guide. A more friendly guy you'd be hard pressed to find. He took care to make sure that I was doing OK and never left me behind despite my slower pace. I only dumped my new DR once but since there was no picture, well .... you know the rest. Might have been in a spot like this that it didn't happen.

If you're coming to this area, and I highly recommend you do, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not getting in touch with Bill and letting him guide you on a ride or at least buying the man a cold one. He'll get you into places like this.

But, he might also be happy to get you into places like this.

Ooops, duplicate picture and I can't seem to change it. Deal with it.
