Should work, However I use these and they work great. The forkseals are ten years old and still holding. They work well in both wet and dry conditions too. .
+1 Why use seal savers if they do not cover the whole travel of the fork. The Daystar fork boots work great.
Well maybe not just yet Waiting for the delivery of the new addition to the stable is such a drawn out affair Two weeks might not sound like much but I'm climbing walls already. I've always loved the 640 Adventure since laying eyes on one quite a few years back with the fairing, the big tank & those two headlights that just remind me of Arnie the Terminator I was in the market to replace my 1995 KTM 620 SC about 4 years ago and the 640 ADV was at the top of my list I would have had one but before buying then I made the (not so big) mistake of test riding an EXC 525. This immediately made me postpone the ADV purchase & look for a 525 to play with. I figured I still had some time left to test my skills out enduro style and could always buy the 640 later on. Turned out to be a good move as I subsequently joined an Enduro Bike Club (Ariel Motorcycle Club of South Australia) which really put me on a steep learning curve regarding bike riding skills (especially in sand & hillclimbs!) I feel I'm now better equipped skills wise to ride the 640ADV in terrain & conditions I would have never even dreamed of attempting before. The previous owner has sent me a pic so although technically not in my hands yet, it is fully paid for. With about 16.000 kms (10,000 miles) on the clock I figure she's only just been run in I'm really looking forward to catching up with the SA ADV crew and also taking some longer distance type riding exploring our vast state & possibly beyond. Oh......& I definitely will be doing the exact opposite of what my forum name suggests This bike's a keeper!
Thanks for all the replies. I'm fighting a computer virus, and I'm no computer geek, although I'm learning to be one. Everything I read here confirms what I already thought, the 640 is for me. Now all I have to do is fix and sell 2 other bikes...Jeff G.
Just thought I'd let ya'll know Holan USA has the heavy crash bars in stock as of 2/1, ordered mine yesterday. They do not import the light version though so no luck there. Thanks for all ya'lls help. Zack
I think that is the correct thread ... I posted it on the LC4 (the light one ... ) thread ... Trying to make a NavTower for the adv ... Any help appreciated ... edit... Forgot the link ... http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86958&page=143
** If this is in the wrong section - let me know or move it... Dear All, Ive just replaced the cush drive bearing and seal washer (part 54610018000). Im concerned where the washer sits - it rubs on the rubber/plastic dust seal of the bearing as the wheel rotates. I cant see how it roginally fitted as the one I replaced had disintegrated... The pic quality isnt great - but could someone look at thiers and tell me how the washer sits and if it rubs on the seal - wondering if the part is right? I havent ridden it yet (since changing the bearing). Thanks Gary
Here's pics of my 99. I don't see the rubber seal on mine. Does your seal stick out of the housing? Maybe my seal has a steel cover? I guess I ought to wash my bike.
Thank you heaps for the reply - I will check closer. ChrisC yours is like husaberg used to do - rely on the bearing seal itself - Im thinking of going that way too. I might look at a '99 parts list as the washer looks a couple of mm bigger in diameter in the pictures - thanks again. Gary
just looked at the parts for '07. Different bearing ( 2 x single row instead of 1 x double row) Different washer... Hmmm. http://www.boltonmotorcycles.com/find/fiche/217184 heres my model year... http://www.boltonmotorcycles.com/find/fiche/214072 Cheers Gary
I think its all good - looking at your photos, and looking at a secondhand one for sale up the road it would seem there is a wee iddy bitty space between the washer and the bearing - so in actual fact its not making contact even tho it apears to... Thanks for your efforts, Gary
Woah! Bill! Where'd you find that pic!? Maybe I posted it up here...Don't remember, but I made those megaphones and you can see the little sneakers of my Ducati ST2 in the background. I feel special now!
Thanks to you and JUAMES for the reply. I think I'll have one of those mounted for the season. Appreciate your choice of the bikes!
Just post it on other thread. I had electric problems and I was ready to replace connectors and parts of the electric harness. the problem was while riding sometimes I had no electricity in the IMO, horn etc. Before doing anything, I cleaned and reconnect the ground and all problems were solved.
Found it somewhere on line, don't rember actually, just did a search on megaphones. We used to see Ducati mods like this run on the track at Elchart Lake in Wisconsin. bill
