That's a nice lookin' shootin' iron. What do those sell for?

Why do air rifles have the iron sights so far from your eye?

The leather jacket is to help control the shooter's pulse having an impact on the rifle. At that level anything that can help steady the rifle is used.

Break barrels. They keep the rear sight aligned properly after cocking. (Which requires dropping the barrel and exposing the breech for loading.)

Isn't that one a side cocked model instead of a break barrel?

thanks...scary stuff!..I thought they might use the stiffness to give them a reference point for their stillness...sort of like dozens of indicator gauges touching your skin at each point the fabric hits the skin...

Barrel droop is what I don't like about break barrels...usually too many shims are needed for a scope and the length is short. But they are popular and fairly accurate.

I bought a Gammo Whisper Quiet .177 at "Dick's" a few weeks ago for pest control. 7 chippies and 5 squirrels later my gardens are no longer torn all to shit and my house isn't under attack / attempts to occupy by the striped rats. They can come back, I've got lot's of pellets and a shovel.

I've dispatched 2 chipmunks in the last couple weeks for the same reasons. Got'em with (hold yer noses) with a Crossman 760, with 15 pumps, and BB's.

Perfect head shot at about 10 yrds with open sights.

I wonder if the rear sights on the RWS 52 are so far forward just to accommodate the scope. (it is a side lever)

The Crosman 760 doesn't get much respect, but it's deadly gun as close range. A friend of mine has taken countless squirrels on his bird feeder with that gun.

Also, there are serious airgunners with really expensive airguns who also have a 760--and wouldn't part with it.

I have one and I'm watching for an older wooden stock version.

I had a wooden one way back in the late 60's early 70's. Lost in a fire at our home when I was 18. Never replaced it. This one is on loan from a friend, but alas, it's plastic. Looks pretty close to wood and works just as well.
There is some kind of interlock with the bolt and trigger and the BB's go in a different way. Other than that it's pretty much the same as I remember. (from 40 years ago)

I just put a $15 scope on a Daisy 856. Cheap thrills for sure, but I still enjoy looking at the high-end stuff in this thread.

it doesnt matter what you use as long as you can use what you've got. money is not a guarantee of being any good. i know a couple of guys (trap shooting) with £8-10K shotguns who couldnt hit the side of a barn, even if they were inside the barn.

All of my shots have been with open sights, 10~60 feet, too clsoe for scope work.

Spent many hours behind a 760, not bad for the money. Best friend (at the time :ddog) accidently shot me point blank in the knee with his 760. Had to go to the Doctors and have it dug out, have a nice scar as a result.
