Yes. And during it I plan to be in Oaxaca. Maybe you'll visit a cigar factory! Wear a Che shirt and pretend you are in Cuba, comrade. LOL!
Actually, I'll probably attend for the goodie bag and see if the president of the club I used to belong to was serious when he asked me for some routing suggestions, a month ago. The Mystery Rider still knows the secret handshake for that group. Meanwhile, I've got this daiquiri recipe that needs a little fine tuning, and this book about a civil war, a bullfight or two, some loose women, some tight escapes, and some bells ringing, needs an editor. How about we go rogue and plan an Anit-Rally rally? Stick it to the man! Fight the good fight! Protest against group rides to restaurants! We could have a secret handshake and arm-wrestle to see who pays the tab at the Mera Madre!
MM, you read my mind; we'll be reverse snobs going on our own groovy little rides and eating breakfast out in the sticks. While they eat mass produced rubber pollo, we'll go to that Argie futbol player's place and eat lomo with Malbec. It will be grand.
We'll all get together and build a big wooden GS1200, get inside and pay some of the local Harley guys to push us up to the doors of the Camino Real hotel. If the plan fails, the idea was Bob Loblaw's! This is how the Crusades started.
Need a mushroom and malbec break but I've already started with the u joints. These are probably better than the german ones
Came back from Nuevo Laredo a few hours ago. Things are pretty peaceful and the bar that I was in became Party Central on a Monday night. The green military pickups and the black and white Federale trucks have been supplemented by white State Police trucks. There was a three pickup convoy circulating last night and the lead vehicle had one of those .50 caliber Barnett sniper weapons mounted to the trucks - yikes! I was walking to the farmacias near the border this morning and a convoy of Federales were asking some dude that was in a black pickup some serious questions. The didn't have him on the ground, but were looking at his paperwork pretty hard so I suspect that they were trying to identify him. What impressed me was two fold - the Federales took defensive positions with heavy weapons along the entire block, but the crowd basically ignored the show and business continued as usual. As Mark pointed out the military and armed cops are taking their masks off, slowly but surely. Was shooting the breeze with another old gringo this morning and as he pointed out you don't see any Transitos or Metropolitan cops in Laredo lately. Clearly a major change from 9 months ago.
Guess that means I will need to not drag foot pegs and pass double semis from PV to Guat. Thanks for the contact. I will give him a call tomorrow. And start a RR some day soon
Damn Bob, that knot looks like what that Trudeau Jr. has in store for you guys. Elegant, time consuming, expensive, yet ultimately useless solutions to simple problems! Shh! Don't tell the gringos we are talking in Canuck code.
