Thanks for the other info. I had a go and set the susp back to standard today- seems previous owner wanted it softer than standard, and it is now transformed! Really didn't expect that. And I am 100kg (220lb), so seemingly good over a range of weights.

With the 19l tank I've been getting high 140s to 160ish to light, although now I've got the confidence from better settings, this may well drop fast.

It was this tank that persuaded me to get the 990SM instead of an Adv, now that they're only 19.5, which is absurd. A.B.S.U.R.D. When I had the 950SMR, until I traded it, had debated swapping to non R tank for the extra. Don't think I could cope with less.

I think when I get the cans (almost certainly Wings), I'll stick to small DBK, so I can stay std map- it's losing heat and weight (with my belly, every other gram counts!) that I want most.

maybe next year i can pick one up for 8500.00 ?

Oh yeah, the White Power suspension is very responsive to adjustment.
Don't stop at standard . . . try everything . . . you can always go back.
And remember, the outdoor temperature will effect it greatly.
I had to back off on the damping (more clicks = less damping) in the winter time so it wouldn't beat me to death.

Got the SMR to be honest... finding it hard to dial in... anyone in LA that can help ?I had ohlins specialist put the suspension to the KTM Racing setting + set sag thinking it would deal with my weight better but it just removed most of the rear dampening .. I returned the bike back to stock... but still not feeling 100% bike still new.. 4 days old 600+ miles the mechanic was telling me the suspension needs to broken in before I tighten it up... whats your thoughts... also I've been feeling squeamish taking right hand corners... its as if the rear wheel skipping a little before engaging into the corner. I inspected the wheel there no nails or oil... and there no chicken strips... also Im 6' feet tall 230 pounds... yes I'm on the heavy side working on lightening that up... Also wondering per my older bikes the rear has always been little higher then the front... it seems the SMR either balanced or little lower... notice there no rear height adjustment option... please advise

Find the road with the most tight curves you can,then go up and down it so often you forget to think about the suspension!
Then you find it,ll be fine.It,s a new bike you may be over thinking it-I know I did

Still waiting on my SMR. maybe this weekend? as far as the suspension goes, most KTM's are mis matched front to rear. My superduke was to soft in the rear and bit hard in the front. Most WP also suffers from to much high speed comp. damping, and to little high speed rebound damping. this really shows up on our rough roads here in So. Cal.
Race tech revalved my forks, and it helped a little. The suspension will "loosen" up a bit with a few more miles.

I cant believe you had the same issue, regarding the cage nut. Arrgh, what a drag that was, talk about testing ones patience. Someone on the assembly line needs to have his or her torque wrench revoked!

Is the akrapovic exhaust worth putting on. The slip on or full system? I do like the look better but is there a performance gain? How loud are they compared to stock, with/without baffels? Dealer will usually install and remap if I buy it at time of purchase. I also saw 2 different akra slip ons one for racing only with carbon fiber tips part # 6260509920 or the other which does not say for off road use part # 62505099000 which are you using? Thanks for any info...

Can't figure out how to stop this leak... any help would be appreciated ...

If anyone has recommendations it would be greatly appreciated... what loctite do you use with metal to rubber ?

HEY Brother nice riding with you yesterday. I think the loctite is for the metal fitting to the oil tank. Another thing that could be causing the leak is from too much oil in the oil tank. Next thing to do is to start replacing things. Hope you get it worked out.

Now that I look a little closer at the photo, it looks like the hose clamp is not all the way down in the correct position. maybe above the "lip" on the fitting.

Have you decided to buy a 990?
Since I don't have a dyno, I can't really tell you how much power is gained,
but you will definitely feel a difference with Akras.
All the KTM's I have owned since 2001 had stock silencers that feel like they are choking the life and the power right out of the bike because they are not free flowing enough.
Opening up the stock silencers, or replacing them with freer flowing silencers like Akras made a world of difference in the feel of the power of all those bikes.
On the 990, I am using the old style 950 Adventure Akras , because that's what I just happened to have around the shop at the time, and actually, I do like that old look better.
I have used them with and without baffles, and both feel much better than stock. All the above changes were slip on or bolt on silencers, no full systems.

I agree.


First I would determine whether the leak was coming from:
1. the fitting @ the oiltank.
2. the inner layer of the hose @ the fitting.
3. the outer layer of the hose @ the inner layer of the hose.

If it's #3, replace the hose.

I never use locktite on metal to rubber, because it is a THREAD-locker.

I have wanted it since the day I rode it just needed to figure out how to pay for it.lol..I am close to pulling the triigger that's why I wanted to know about exhaust since my dealer usually will install and remap for me at time of purchase...I kept trying to convince myself to get a less expensive alternative but the ktm kept coming back as the bike I wanted..I talked to my dealer once but price was too far from the price I saw you posted so I will go back to see if we can close that price gap some more...I will let you know when I do...

I'm sure a shop in rural West Virginia has much lower overhead
than one on Lawnggisland, so you may have to drive a lot to save a lot.

Did he discuss the KTM-Care extended warranty choices with you?
(Or is he going to spring it on you at the last second:huh?)
