My Chinese Rukus KNOCKOFF has almost 3k on it save for a few more that didn't get put on the od after a little garage misshap. I had some Roll cage tubing in my garage leaning against the wall and a section of it fell and broke the instrument cluster. I had to ride it a few days without a working cluster. SSR motorsports sent me a replacement for free even though the damage was my fault. The Duro tires that came on it seem to be wearing ok. And Just put new belt on it.
That's awesome!! Show me a Honda shop that would have done that for you. Glad to hear it's holding up well. Keep the reports coming.
It really has been a enjoyable scooter. It is pretty big and just so damn comfortable to ride. My Friends always want to know why I got it but I don't think I ever mentioned it here. I have a few nice bikes to ride but unfortunately early last year I had to have surgery and couldn't lean forward to ride. Even my brand new Bonnie would have me damn near collapsing after just a short ride. It would put a hurtin on a pretty tender area and will do so for quite a while according to my Dr. I just couldn't imagine not being able to ride and at the time I had a brand new truck to pay off and a Trump that I will absolutely not get rid of. I could not afford a Real ruckus.. Still really cannot. I Rode a Real Ruckus and to my surprise I had no pain but just could not swing the payements. Most of my riding is just around town and on surface streets so the 150cc is plenty enough power. One of these days I will be able to get back on the big bikes but I am sure glad I decided to get this little scoot. I can't imagine not being able to ride. And yes SSR did not have to do that for me. They really surprised me with just a simple email asking for address to send the part to after I had asked for price and stated what happend to it.
Are they local to you? I'd take them a big box of crispy cremes or some sorta beerOrama gift. I am shocked at that service, definitely makes me wanna drop my chinese crap stance and open my mind and wallet.
Sounds like you made a real good choice with this cool bike....and with superb customer support too. I`d LOVE a Big Ruckus but simply can`t find one over here and a bit like you said I can`t really afford what is for sale abroad and then the shipping and import costs. Think it`s time to see if your bike is available over here...it`d do all I want to it do without the bigger capacity. Thanks for keeping this thread going....please continue to add updates and pics.
They are in Cali. I am in Mo. My little scooter shop out in the sticks has provided great service as well. He will get my business in the future for sure. He has already given me great prices on parts for a z50 project I was working on over the summer.
I simply wanted to put in a better belt. The original was still in pretty decent shape so didn't notice anything.
been following this off and on since you first posted. just went back and looked at the OP. Damn, that's a decent looking bike. And the 1500 price still blows me away. glad it's working out for you.
Thank you! I Did really Neglect trying to weatherize so to speak the bike for winter riding this winter. I really need to work on that and get some sort of short windshield and knee wind deflectors....I keep talking about it I just havent yet made anything yet. I just freeze my ass off.. I do want to note this bike has some sort of Threadlocker on every bolt from the factory on it. I havent yet had anything rattle off of it. Now that I say that the damn thing will loose a panel or something..
When the BR was released I thought that Acerbis or one of the dirt bike fender makers ought to have made flexible unbreakable splash guards for it. Had the bike gone over maybe they would have. Here's your opportunity...
Some additional thoughts, on my own BR clone experience: Power is lacking...well, duh. But it's worse than I expected - top speed is only about 52 with the wind at my back; down to about 45 in a headwind. I've got about 200 miles on my clone, and it's running smoother as it breaks in...I HOPE it breaks in; it's so low-powered, I've been heavier on the throttle than I ought to be with a green engine. Putting synoil in with the first oil change, cut down valve clattering noticeably. It's a great ride, but it's just too slow for open roads. I spend all my time looking for turnouts to let the backlog of traffic by. LOVE to find a way to put a Reflex engine in the frame...anyone know where there's a scoot boneyard?
52mph isnt that bad for a air cooled gy6 scoot especially as big as a fake ruckus. When Mine came in My Dealer checked and reset the valves after he ran it for a bit. He also changed out the plug with a ngk iridium (Spelling) plug after running it for a bit after the stock head fiasco.. I doubt I will ever put syn oil in mine but if it works for you let us know. You dont have the factory oil in it do you? Running premium? How is your power out of the hole? Mine seems to be able to jump out in front of traffic pretty well and I am 230lbs. Most of my riding with my SSR ruckus is done on 40mph surface streets and I feel really comfortable on it on any road up to 45mph and am able to zing ahead if need be. I Would suggest checking the valve gap sooner than later. There are several good walkthrough's on scootdawg forums. I also Danced with the idea of swapping a helix 244cc I have into my Fake ruckus but I will probably just find a Honda Helix Or a Maybe even china version if it is cheap enough But that's all when I grow tired of my SSR Rowdy..that won't be any time soon. I really am starting to dig the Naked helix look though!
I just ordered my first scooter, and it's a Rowdy 150. I got a large cover, gear and motor oils, loctite, and pretty much everything else I need to get going. I turn my own wrenches on my car, so I'll be doing everything on my bike. I need a disc lock alarm, and someone local has a Xena XN14 cheap. Would that lock fit either the front or rear discs on the Rowdy? I hope to contribute pics and info when I perform my PDI. Such a cool-looking scooter needs more information out there. Oh yeah, the lock has a 14mm bolt and is 47mm deep. Here's a link to the info. PEACE.
Little Update on My Rowdy Rucklone. It still running really good even in the heat. Still haven't mounted the Action packer just yet. But I Did have a little setback with it albeit self inflicted. On the way to work at 3:30am the other day I came around corner with a little too much speed and hit something slick. It covered a pretty good portion of the lane and smelled of gear oil. I Didn't have to "Lay er Down" but I did hit a curb with the rear tire at around 40mph. I couldn't recreate the maneuver if I tried. Anyhow. I went on to work but with a click......click ......click sound all the way there. I couldn't replicate the noise with it on the center-stand. I threw a Starret last word on it and the wheel is not running out or bent. I guess I fragged the rear wheel bearing. I called the dealer and he is going to go over it after the holiday. Years ago I nailed/ skipped over a parking curb with my Mint low mile Ascot in a market parking lot when a older gal decided it would be fine to cut across 5 aisles while digging through her purse. Same damn thing... Click...Click...Click Oh well, I have been meaning to get it in there for the scheduled service My Dealer provides. I have just been too busy riding the crap out of it. I need to get my Bonnie out anyway. Good times.
Good to hear you didn't prang yourself. As the old japanese owners manual said "beware the grease mud." So how many miles have you accumulated on it?
About 4k I think. I trashed my first speedo so the milage is off a bit since I road it for a while with it broke. The clicking has went away but I am still taking it in this week to have it gone over to see if the wheel/axle bearing is shot. I am still happy with it. I want the dealer to check the Valve gaps while I am there since it is supposedly past due for it.
She still a Runnin. Had it serviced at the dealer near the end of may. Had valves checked and a clicking in the back sorted out after banging it into a curb. I assume it was a bad wheel bearing. He replaced them with some SKF? Bearings. It has not made the noise since. And like last summer it seems to be dealing with the heat and humidity great. I still ride it just about everyday since my Bonneville hurts my knee. Maybe next summer I'll sell it and get a 250cc. I Want a Honda Helix but I really don't want to pay what they seem to be going for. I might even buy a Knockoff Helix My Dealer can get. It's tempting for the price. The Bonnie is probably going to have to go. Looks like I need to look at the new Royal Enfields or maybe a Dnepr???
Update. Still a Running. I have a Rattle around the muffler somewhere. I have been contemplating putting a aftermarket muffler on it anyway. I just really hate like hell to do anything to it other than maintenance though.
How many miles do you have on it now? I just got mine, have 12 miles on it haha when I first start mine, it idles for a few seconds and then slowly starts to die. When I drive it for a while, the idle causes the wheel to spin a little. Have you had any issues like this or know what I could do to fix this? I was thinking about adjusting the air/fuel mixture, have you done this and if you have, was there a plug over the screw?
