Saw some dirt to play on.... I'm not sure what pass this was, it split. I didnt really care, it's all beautiful. I turned around and headed back south on 550 to Durango........ The lens cover on my point and click must be dirty, it kept sticking. I had it unprotected tethered to my tank bag .... Durango... Lunch time.... Looked at a map after lunch and decided to make my way to Mesa Verde National Park. Rt 160 west out of Durango.
It was late afternoon & I didnt know where I was staying or if there was camping in the park.....so I fueled up...... and headed to the park. Made my way to the museum ......
Is that mesa verde? Never been there. Edit: Upon reading the words (such a chore) I see it is indeed Mesa Verde.
Mesa Verde Museum: Next to see a few of the cliff dwellings.... ranger said these birds are Turkey Vulchers..... After checking out the park for a couple of hours, I decided to head into town........... Cortez, and see if I could find some cheap lodging.... Found a cheap room, right next to a liquor store.
Four corners.... Ok. Had a few the previous night....little tough on the get-going of it all... decided to head to the corners and then in to Utah at some point after spilling beer on a map all night. About 45 minutes after passing Shiprock...........It came to me, that I should not have been passing it ....:ddog Wait, what. Where are we going anyways.... and who the F*ck is driving ?
after squandering most of the morning and back in Shiprock, I'm hungries. WTF is sonic? There is a first and last time for everything in this life. Sometimes they are very close together, to the point of one.
Back on track...... got this money clip for myself and a bracelet for my little girl..... F*ckit, I'm gonna go to the grand canyon again...... its something to do.
rt 160 west to 98 north is my route. small cut down from Page AZ. mostly silt and dirt but the map didn't tell me that.....old map and after I learned of a paved rd. that I could have taken .... in hindsight i'm glad i didn't know of the road. I had past some small dogs.....on the side of the road...........now goats and stuff too........... so close at high speeds so i slowed down
I'm wasting time having a blast not knowing the pavement runs out..... No other traffic wooot.... I have no problem with gravel and rock..............silt and loose dirt eeeeeeeeehhhh, not good on heavy bike......but fun
15 min. later some locals past by in an old 70's ford (like i like, just like my grandpa's pick up) told me no left, go straight 18 miles. Thats cool........gas gage says 39 to empty, so no problem. I didnt have a good picture but that was an intersection.
Time to start looking for a place to sleep....... I went over a bridge that had a rest area on the other side... Directly after the bridge turn off was a lodge and restaurant that had been built after the original bridge was completed. Great place to stay, rates were reasonable too.
Had breakfast with another traveler on a HD. Then went to attend to a no charge GPS..... loose wire .... tightened right up for a charge On my way to northern rim of Grand Canyon........
