The V Strom is a wonderful bike, I put 33,000 miles on mine, but, for a new rider, smaller and lighter might feel more secure for a while. There are great choices in the 250cc dual sport class and they'll take you anywhere you want to go.

Wife and I enjoyed some camping and off-roading this weekend near Natural Bridge, VA. She did a little tree trimming with front end of her bike and given this was her first fall and came up laughing about the whole incident was a total relief.

We had a blast and can't wait to get out there and find some more dirt to throw our bikes around in.

I am a genuine, adventure riding woman... but, I really don't have the "adventure" bike for it. I do however, like to travel and have done so quite a bit on my current and previous bikes. I hope to someday get a real adventure bike!

For the meantime, here's a few pics:

I've posted these elsewhere, but they have to go here, also.

Inmate Barbsironbutt with her 13 year-old daughter. They just completed 5500 miles in ten riding days two-up on a scooter. The torch has been passed to a new generation!

My adventure woman just starting out

She's just getting her (2) wheels under her in this photo.

Her first trip of any distance. Taking a break to cool off and hydrate. Unfortunately many more pictures were lost when the camera these were taken with was stolen before I got them downloaded.

Love this thread!! Hoorah for fellow redheaded lady riders!!!

I don't have many action shots, especially not lately because I've been a schlub and haven't gone on many long distance rides. However, at the end of this month I'm quitting my job (actually gave my notice yesterday) and intend to do the writing thing while travelling the country on two wheels. :D Already told my agent I'd see him in New York come September, as well as a few other publishing editors. The Dude is rushing around now trying to get his own long distance bike, since I got my R1200GS he's not content with using the Weestrom. :deal

In 2009, with less than three months of sporadic riding under my belt, I did my first "adventure ride" on my Honda GL500 (first bike), complete with ADV ride report. :D

Most of my pics are/were bike porn since it was just me and I didn't have a fancy tripod or helmet cam or anyone else to take pictures. BUT, hopefully I'll get all that and more starting this fall when I'm on the road a whole lot more. :freaky
