my pops is planing a lot of trail riding on the TY this weekend..plus the factory petcock is blown out the little donut with the 4 holes is shot.....is it sacriledge to throw this tank on ??

If you do keep that tank on, just switch the "a"and "i" around on the side cover and you'll be fine.

Nice bike, but its not a BSA, its a BSA motor fitted into what looks like a modern day HT5 Ariel frame. Back in the day the BSA Goldstar trials bikes, weighed around 100lbs more than the Miller modified HT5, but even back in 1956 the writing was on the wall for the heavy old single cylinder 4T bikes, with John Draper equally Millers score on his HT5 in that years SSDT riding a 150cc BSA Bantam!

My older daughter (8 now) decided that she was ready to ride late last summer. Since then she's done a fair amount of riding in the yard but hasn't "gone riding" with me (other than bringing the XR along to ride in the pits at a trials event last year). Today was the first time we actually loaded up and headed out for a ride. She started on the Oset, but since the trails were slick, rocky and rooty, she was more comfortable being able to sit on the XR50 (I brought both, just in case) and rode it all day.

She did much better than I expected. I did a bunch of pushing early on but I was amazed with what she was riding through/over/up by the end of the day. We took three trips up the biggest hill there - requiring less help from dad with each successive trip. If the trails had been dry I think she'd have made it on her own. On top of all that, she had a great time. She was also asleep in the truck before I was done loading the bikes.

We had a great trials yesterday at San Ysidro!

I rode my first event in Semi-Expert and survived.

I finished mid-pack in a fairly large and talented class so I am stoked about that! It was loads of fun and strected my confidence quite a bit.

NMtrailboss smoked all of us in SX with a 17 in a day full of tough sections. Great job Curtis!!

the bikes went for a snow/ice/slush ride....but the Yamaha lost compression and sounds like it may have busted a ring had to tow it 8 miles threw the slush...the TLR 200 is a tank and towed about 850lbs of people/bikes/equipment:eek1

still working on my skills before I finally do a event on the TLR...we had a local event on Sunday but I passed on it because I rarely get to ride with my pops.

but I did spend a little bit of time practicing pre loading and popping up the front wheel over obstacles. and just overall slow/steady turning and balance

It is. OJ is an '86/'87 TLR200 Reflex. It spans both years, as the 3 piles of parts that built it were from both.

Merely a flesh wound.

The TY175 is based on an overbored 125 motor, and does run very hot due the cooling fins having been intended for 125cc.

If you run these bikes hard in muddy conditions without a mud flap on the front guard, then the front of the cylinder will quickly become clogged with mud.

This doesnt make a lot of difference if bike is being ridden slowly in trials application, but when piston crown temperature is very high due to sustained high rpm use, seizure on the front skirt of the piston will often result.

Its really a very good idea to fit a mudflap to any air-cooled bike thats going to get used in muddy conditions, as air-cooled cylinders really dont work very well at all when they are clogged with mud!
