At this time, we are not approved to ship any Fuel Pack to the State of California. Our high quality Fuel Packs will soon be submitted for approval by the C.A.R.B. board for authorization to sale in California. This affects California ONLY and other C.A.R.B. complying States will receive a C.A.R.B. approved Spout. California residents can still order any products that are not designed to Fuel. Thanks for your patience and we hope to be Shipping to customers in California soon!
Gary Nevada appears to not be on the CARB list of complying States - I'm thinking, just find another ADVrider in say the Reno area and have the gas cans shipped there, then enjoy a nice weekend in the Sierras on the ride up to get them.
I wonder...is the spout C.A.R.B.-compliant but just not yet C.A.R.B.-listed/approved (pending a testing or application process)? I'm guessing (would love to know for sure) that C.A.R.B. requirements involve the cap and spout not releasing gasoline fumes. That's totally fine by me. If that were the case in fact, I'd rather buy a C.A.R.B.-compliant one. Anyone know what the regulation actually requires, or how a C.A.R.B.-compliant spout might differ from one that is not? I believe the issue with the old kolpin's was that the non-carb spout could be stored inside the container, while the carb compliant ones could only be mounted externally -- which kind of f's up the thing for moto/atv use. I need to find out for sure what kind of spout will appear if I order the pak for delivery here.
Just did some googling, here's a partial list, from here. All new fuel cans and spouts manufactured, sold, or supplied for use in California after January 2001 must meet with specific performance standards. These standards include, but are not limited to, the features listed below: - Portable cans must be manufactured with a single opening which will function for both filling and pouring. The decreased number of openings will reduce spillage and escaping vapor. - New cans must have a self-venting spout since the secondary vent opening has been eliminated. - Each can must employ an automatic shut-off spout capable of stopping fuel flow before overflow can occur. - The spout must close automatically after fuel dispensing, seal itself, and remain sealed against vapor emissions while not in use. - The permeation rate of fuel through the elastomeric walls of portable fuel cans cannot exceed a rate of .4 grams per gallon per day. - New cans must be warrantied against defects for at least one year. - Each fuel container or spout must display either a manufacture date or a representative code for identification and regulation compliance. - Packaging text must include additional labels of, spill proof system or spill proof spout. Still don't see anything that makes me not want to have a CARB-compliant can.... Rob in Seattle
Jason mentioned the spout issue when we spoke. The new spout will be self venting. The 1 gal tank I am getting is not self venting which means it will take about 30 secs I believe to empty into my tank and will gurgle. They did some tests. They wiil be getting new spouts in a few weeks. kilter
30 seconds. I don't have that kind of time, I'm on an adventure. As for the gurgling I usually wear ear plugs so it might be OK. I'll wait for the reviews to come in....
I did and relized my brain fart! Tried to nuke my post before some caught it but I guess I was to late so here's your prize !
That's right you ungrateful nOOb - learn to read a thread and look for your answers and you won't get your little Huevos busted - now fuck off and get me a beer, Biatch!
Sorry Nate didn't mean to piss the guy off - I could kinda understand him asking for info if this thread was 50 pages long but it's not and crap like that gets old to us that have been here awhile
:huh Hats off to Rotopax! Had a 2 gallon container strapped to the back of my DR650 for three days on rough roads in Death Valley. No leaks and didn't budge. Sure was nice having the peace of mind in not running out of gas! Used the discount and had it at my door in no time!
