Me and inmate Bobfab recently tackled the north west corner of Routt National Forest in CO and southern Medicine Bow in WY - me on the armored and uncorked WRR and him on a highly modified DRZ400. I put gorilla tape on the impact areas of the frame and swing arm and it did a great job of keeping the bike from taking abuse. The Q4 exhaust & the associated uncorking REALLY cannot be worshiped enough - Thank you WRR owners who came before me and blazed the trail to the perfect set of mods! I was thankful for every mod and every piece of gear at one point or another through this 2 day run. Mods: G2 throttle tamer, Renthal grips, AIS/flapper removal, power bomb header, FMF Q4 exhaust, Power programmer dash mounted, Flatland skid plate and rad guard, Tail bag (zip tie mounted), tool tube (zip tie mounted) with 30 oz msr bottle, Custom plexiglas headlight cover, Uni filter, Amsoil, Pirelli MT-43 trials tire rear, Pirelli Scorpion Pro FIM front Zero mechanical problems, zero injuries. Had an amazing time on this bike Hahns Peak: Continental Divide: CO-WY border: Hog Park Reservoir, WY: Near Ellis Jeep Trail: Ellis Jeep trail: Even with an 8000btu heater running full blast in the camper the dog's bowl was frozen by the morning. On the up side the bike started up fine even after overnight lows of 14 degrees! Thanks again WRR owners for all the mod recommendations and tutorials!
>"with 30 oz msr bottle" Adding a 3.1 or 4.5 gallon tank makes the bike a lot nicer... Looks like you have the 'quiet' Powercore spark arrestor cone. If you have a Q4 silencer that's a bit too loud, this one works. You need to fold over the spark arrestor cone to the top, then it inserts in a Q4 pipe. Partspec: FMF Racing 1 1/8in. Quiet Core Insert for PowerCore 4/Ti PoweCore 4 040630 ($35 bucks from PowerSport Superstore on Ebay. )
I'm sure it does, but 2 30 oz MSR botles (one in tube plus one in bag) and the tool tube all together cost $50 and install is 10 minutes. The 3.1 is $300 plus say an hour of install time? That's a $250 dollar difference that in my opinion is better spent shipping the bike from PA to colorado That said, I covet the 3.1 IMS tank for sure Yes the exhaust came from another inmate with the quiet insert already installed, and he supplied me with two other inserts that are louder and probably more powerful. The sound of the quiet one is perfect and downright infectious if you ask me and I was reluctant to change anything about it. In any case this ride was the maiden voyage for this exhaust and we didn't have much time to test and tune.
I used to spend more time pumping gas than I did riding. Yes, the bigger tanks are a little pricy, but they're worth every penny
>"The sound of the quiet one is perfect and downright infectious if you ask me and I was reluctant to change anything about it. The quiet cone reduces the power at high rpms, but seems to generate nice power from idle on up. Pretty quiet too. Can't really live without my 3.1 tank, plus a gallon of Rotopax fuel on the Wolfman side rack. Sometimes we ride 400 to 500 miles per day. I need the Rotopax in addition to the 3.1 if a gas station is closed or out of fuel. (It beats pushing the bike 30 miles.)
On a recent 6-day trip riding mountain trails in Colorado, one member of our group (who rides one of those orange bikes) brought a couple of those MSR bottles for extra fuel. The bottles had those silly childproof caps and one got messed up...impossible to remove the cap when he needed fuel. Ended up breaking the cap apart and needed vice grips, screw drivers, and rocks to get it open. I installed my IMS 3.1 just a week prior to that trip and I was glad I did.
These are a few bucks, I got mine at REI. They are MSR brand, and are a great replacement to the childproof caps.
Is there any field reports out there on the Screens for Bikes, WR250R/X wind screen? Thank you. AK Greg http://www.screensforbikes.com/gallery/yamaha/wr-250-r-08-12-2/
Hi. I used their high impact screen on my WR250R on the Australasian Safari. The thing mounted up and fit perfectly, survived a high speed endo and whipping by thousands of branches with nothing more than a couple of scratches - I couldn't recommend it highly enough (note that I had my headlight assembly tilted forward to clear the nav instruments, so may not be indicative of where the wind would be deflected when mounted stock). Threw the wind up at my neck rather than into my chest as per stock, so it's a great thing if you ask me. See my earlier posts about my Safari bike in this thread for pictures. Dave.
ATTENTION EURO SPEC WR250R/X OWNERS Can someone tell me how I can get a euro spec tail assembly in the US? I want the plastic turn signal mount & the tail light itself. Could care less about the plate bracket. Can I get a part number? A place that would sell & ship to the US? A used one?
Can you access EU spare parts catalogue via http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/de/informationen/yamaha-ersatzteile-katalog.aspx It is all in there. This assembly has got several components spread over several sheets. Regards, Phil
The MSR bottle I bought 3 years ago at REI came with those caps. I guess I better keep 'em away from my kids.
You're not alone. I had the same problem for several days even just trying to reach forumotion.com. It was not a cacheing issue on my end as I tried different computers and power cycled my router. I couldn't access the site on my iPhone either when connected to my Wi-Fi network. Once I turned off Wi-FI it worked great on the cell network. I put it down to a routing error somewhere with my ISP. All is good now though.
I have this one from Cee-Bailey: http://www.ceebaileys.com/yamaha/yamaha_wr250_450.html Scroll down to the wrr version. It is similar to the one in your post. Maybe a little shorter. I like mine and feel the blast hits me tops of my shoulders and chin area. I ride long distances so very effective. Low enough not to be a bother in the rock gardens too.
i just got a ktm 690 endruo windscreen for mine two days ago and mounted it like the cee baileys mounts i like the looks and at 65 bucks its the cheapest by far but doesnt looke like it was choped out of a 8x4 piece of plexi 75 dollars shiped i think its a good deal ill post pics up soon
You got a ktm oem screen? That sounds like the best deal out there, how about a link so we know which one you got? I have the Laminar lip screen & it doesn't do enough. I moved it up as far is it would go & it still didn't get the blast off my chest.
