:eek1 Glad your leg is still attached!! Holy @#$$%!! Ya the thunderbike bars look like they will save my leg from tough brush, thorns, trees, rock bumps, occasional rattlesnake attacks etc.. Oh and most importantly a head on asshat coming at me!! I will do some looking for them if I can find some I will get them. Does the TT skid plate work with the thunderbike bars? You answered this one in your tiger post, "With a tiny bit of grinding (~1/8") it works with the Thunderbike crash bars." Mine will be a 2002 girlie. Will the TT skid plate work on my 02 oem Stand? Never mind i just looked at your tiger post explaining:"On my 2003, it does work with the Triumph center stand (the conflict seems to be with the 2005/06 models". Sweet just saved me 260 bucks thanks. boulder
2002 should be fine. The thread I linked to mentions the TB bars as well. I had to grind a small part off of one of the bars mounting tabs to get them to work with the skid plate. This was 2007, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I had factory center stand, TT skid plate and TB crash bars all installed with minimum fuss on a 2003 girlie. I'll see if I can find the pictures that that thread used to link to. Geof
Oh I found your link with the pics. I updated my replies to you see above. I finally got a clue and registered myself with TigerTriple.com. and will sort over and search there first for basic questions about this bike. No more banging your heads against the wall for questions that have been hashed over and explained many times before.. I can almost feel mustangs and abruzzi shock waves from headbanging here in Utah... Thanks all! boulder
Oh, well I will still have some more set up specific questions to ask about the bike. That I will struggle finding answers on the other site. If experts are on this site at the time and i need a quick fix expert advice sure I will still ask. boulder
I updated reply 6 from that thread to point to new copies of the images. Is should be apparent in the second picture where the support bar for the skid plate has to be ground down a little to miss the thunderbike bar above it. (you can see the notch on the plate on the skid plate mounts. That modification presumably wouldn't be necessary with the TT crash bars. Geof
So, I was doing a bit more reading on the tiger 955i, and I noticed that '01's had some issues with throttle position sensors. How common is this? I have my tiger down to the bones in the basement for a winter service(valve check, new plugs ,new fuel filter,Sasquatch mod, etc...). Should I look at replacing the TPS as long as I have it all apart? Also, if I were to add rox risers, would the 3 1/2" require cable mods? And I was thinking about getting pro-taper ATV high bar too. How much taller than stock is the ATV high? I used tiger triples cross reference post, and saved a bundle on repair parts What I got so far. Radiator cap was from a Nissan 300Z, to get the 1.1 bar required for the tiger. I hope it works. Upon disassembly, I noticed coolant leakage, hence the new cap. I will change the coolant as well, and go over all the hose connections. Maybe something just needs to be snugged up. It's leaking from somewhere. Maybe the cap just burped because I brought it in from sub zero temps into the basement at about 65 or so degrees. As she sits now... I have new full bore M-40 radials to put on too. So, should I do the sensor? Highway pegs, I think the previous owner had twisted throttles pegs on the thunder bike crash bars. They just don't fit ,y foot well. I was thinking of adding the TT m8 foot peg joint, so they would stick out a bit farther, and then maybe my foot would fit, and so they could fold up out the way. They are pretty proud of those joints, what has been the consensus for highway pegs on the thunder bike crash bars? Is there a practical and less expensive solution for mounting something to these bars? You can see the existing mount style in the photos above. That's it for my tiger update T
Tps no issues with my 02. How many miles you have? Leaking a bit of coolant I believe is in the they all do that category. Mine does it every year in the cold.
Hey fellas, hope someone here can help me out. Going to be getting the bike ready for the riding season this weekend. changing oil, coolant, re-wiring, installing farkles, etc. One thing I wasnt to do asap is the breather mod for my bike. I've read over at tigertriple and on a few posts here that the 885i had issues with oil getting in the airbox if the bike tipped over while it was still running. This is bound to happen on my bike. So, there is a poorly defined how to on tigertriple. I've reached out on that forum without finding any help. Does anyone who has a 99-00 tiger have pictures of what they did to there bike? Or can you detail enough explaination that when I take my tank off I can do this mod to my bike? I would greatly appreciate the help. I fel this is an easy fix, but I am not sure where to start since this is the 1st triple I'll be working on. Thanks guys!
No not yet. I went to get a loan and took my wife with me. We ended up doing a refi on the house and a line of credit for me to use to purchase the bike and finish the basement. Ugghhh word of advice don't take your wife with you to get a loan... I am going to pay the loan off once I sale my DR 650. Problem is after we were all done the loan officer says it will take 3 weeks to process..:eek1 So i talked to the seller of the bike and he is soo cool. He has taken it off the market for me. Hey Keystiger, I have some questions to ask you. I will PM you. Also I have pictures of the bike I want to show but I cant upload them as I used to be able to but I don't see the function to do so now. boulder
I usually just copy and paste photos out of my facebook albums. For some reason it works just fine. I myself will be kicking the wife's car out of the garage in a couple weeks to start my winter services. Was told my issue might be a thermostat stuck open. Under 40mph she will get hot, but get out on the open road and she cools right down. So going to get a new radiator cap and put the thermostat in a pot of water and boil it, unless it is open when I take it out. Then going to try the Sasquatch mod.
I have a question for anyone willing to ease my woes... I fine group of poeple have set up a yearly awsoom ride called the RMAR in Colorado. It is a ride I have been dreaming of for a while to go on with my DR650. They have a 600-650 class ride and a larger bike rides. The large thumper rides is the CAM 1000. Just an incredible looking ride with great people. http://www.rmariders.org/cam1000.html Since i am selling my DR 650 to get a 2002 Triumph Tiger I cant go on the CAM ride this year. Really bummed, having second thoughts selling DR 650 at times due to this ride alone. Anyhow the San Juan ride sounds to be for the bigger bikes, I am guessing KTM 990's, GS's etc ranging form 800's to 1200's. http://www.rmariders.org/san-juan-500.html. So I said i was interested in this ride then. Perfect for the Triumph right. Keep in mind that the great people who organize these rides and put them together also want to make sure you don't have a miserable time or get hurt or destroy your bike if it is not the right type of bike. And they dont have time to baby you if your are struggling on your bike. So they are not being jerks expressing this below. I told them what type of bike i Had and he replied with this. "It's up to you, if you think you can manage the Colorado Alpine Loop passes, and likely some even more difficult tracks, then feel free to sign up. Understand you'll likely have one of the least capable bikes, and all donations to RMAR are non-refundable." Update-He emailed me back and told me he thought I meant a Triumph Bonneville. And said this ride is for all types of dual sport bikes. And that my bike should be fine if I am up for the task I feel he is being totally honest comparing to a KTM 990, as it is basically a 500# dirt bike. Triumph weighs pretty much the same. My questions to anyone who wants to or knows these type of riding trails and knows the Triumph capabilities can you tell me if the triumph will be fine. Wont be destroyed and can make this ride? I understand I cant jump it off a 5 foot drop or hit whoop to doos at 40 mph. I feel this is a way better bike then the 1150 gs adventures. If one of those are going then I am in. Riding exp: Been riding motorcycles both on road and off since age 14. Recent Dual sport bikes: 2002 KTM 640 Adventure 2008 DR650 Adventurized Oh and I am 6' 270# and can handle heavy bikes quite well. Not a pro but can keep up with KTM 525 riders in tight trails on my DR 650. Ok yea I am in the back of the pack but they don't get more then 50 yards ahead of me during whole ride. thanks Boulder
Anyone with a 2002 tiger out there? If so, I am curious if your forks on your upper clamp stick out about 1 3/4 inch from the base. I see 2005 and 2006 models flushed and don't protrude above the upper clamps. I asked the PO about this and he said it came that way from the factory and he did not lower the bike. I have seen the suspension above on other pics of tigers also. So did they change suspension geometry on the 2002? Boulder
go to their site and click on "Past events" and look at the pictures. Gives you a pretty good idea. Being on "one of the least capable bikes", you better be one of the most capable riders. If you can put off selling you DR, do it on that bike then sell if you want. I saw pictures of a DR650 being hauled up the side of a hill by ropes in the 2012 RAMR 1000.:eek1 I would totally do that ride if I didn't have to haul a tent & sleeping bag with me. Pretty sure I saw a "girlie" in the pics from last year. Doesn't look like a good choice for that event. BTW: you've been riding since you were 14, but that's meaningless if you are 16. I've been riding since 1970.
