Thank, guys! I appreciate it. Any help I can get! First KTM, so I'm kind of a fish out of water. So, I've spent all morning looking for a stock seat. The best I've heard is that they're back ordered until August 1. So, if you guys know of anyone selling one or that wants to trade for my ergo seat, PLEASE let me know.
Hi there! Got my 1st KTM for 2 years now and I couldn't be happier with her. It's a 2010 supermoto R. She's fast, she's sexy, she's the most exciting bike I've ever ride (and I've ridden a lot); the beauty and the beast, all in one bike! Congrats for this interesting smr corner, where I hope I can add some expertise and take all the advises I'm capable of. My first question has to be with reversing the gearshift. I'm a RR rider as well and I'd like to reverse the shifter, but I can't do it only in one bike, as I know that sooner or later I will be wrong in one or another, and don't like frights when riding... Does anyone know how to get that? Thanks!
Reversing the gearshift? The shifter is mounted directly onto the shaft. What point would you use for a second pivot? Sounds messy. If that were my dilemma, I'd be putting the RR shift pattern back to stock. If you figure out a way to do it, show us a picture. .
You could post a "Seat Wanted" on the "Flea Market" thread under parts. Lots of people have the Ergo seats, so there MUST be stock seats sitting around somewhere. What did the original owner do with his stock seat? Maybe you should call him?
Yes, reversing the gearshift I'm not a mechanic, so I don't have a clue about how difficult (or maybe impossible) it would/could be (that is the main reason I'm asking here ). I haven't reversed anything yet. As I've said, I want to have both bikes fitted the same way, so I don't have to think about every time I take one or the other, how the gears go. I do a lot of track days, so higher footpegs, reversed shifting would help a lot, as well as the semi-automatic shifter, does anyone know where to get/buy any of this?
Look in the street hard parts catalog they have a reverse shifter kit for for a Super Duke also six way adjustable foot pegs with the brake and shift levers. Knowing KTM and the similarities to these models I bet these could be made to work without too much trouble.
Honestly, I've already seen that, and it's not working for the SMR SMR has neither adjustable foot pegs, but after a bit of research I found a mate who has already made a mod for that with a couple of metallic pieces; kinda craftsman artwork, but it'll do the job.
Thanks, Mike. I did all of those things. No responses on here, and the original owner just left his stock seat with the dealer when he bought the bike. I found a seat at a local motorsports superstore, it had just shipped in that day. KTM has them on back order until August.
This is probably a dumb question, but do you know if the R seat fits on the SMT? My SMT seat pushes me too far forward.
Great thread and lots of awesome info - thanks guys. First time I've seen it...shows how often I check in!! Had a 950SM which I adored and so had to pony up for the SMR. Glad I did as it's a noticeably stronger overall package. Drove down to OC to get mine as the dealer there was much more aggressive and I got him to put on Akras and remap it. Baffles out! Music!! A couple of little niggles: - a also have a 690 enduro with a second set of wheels (17") and I got the suspension worked on. Huge improvement and it is now so good that it shows the relative 'weakness' of my SMR set up. I need a stiffer rear spring as it is a bit wallowy if I push it hard. - do others suffer with the chain slap at 3-4k RPM? No biggie, but annoying sometimes. I have tried to cure it by playing with chain tightness, but can rarely cure it. Rode mine up the coast to Point Reyes this morning. Perma-grin, as usual!
If you haven't, try first to change the shock setting to sport, I think the rear wp's are excellent, I'm not exactly lightweight and it worked for me. I do suffer the chain slap, but less than before, after I put a 16 front sprocket.
I guess it would have to Captain, but we might have to be careful. Many of us have been assuming that the T seat and the Ergo seat for the R are the same seat. And they may be, but I don't think I'm 100% sure on that. Do we know for sure that those 2 seats are identical? Do they have the same part number? Hey George, is that a T seat or Ergo R seat that you have?
Mine is the ergo seat, the one listed on page 8 post # 116 of this thread I "assumed" It was the same as the stock smt seat but since they list it as an ergo seat for the sm/smt it may be a replacement for both bikes. The only way to know for sure is check parts numbers or give a KTM dealer a call..
No! I don't know for sure. I have asked that question a few different times along the way on this thread and never got a definite answer: Are the Ergo seat and stock T seat the same thing??? I have a stock SM-R seat AND the same Ergo seat that George has apparently. I have often referred to the Ergo seat as a T seat because it looks the same to me in the pictures, but what do I know?. I have never even seen a KTM SM-T, so it is very likely I have never seen an actual stock SM-T seat (IF it is different from the Ergo). So no. At this point we still don't know. Eventually someone from the T thread may drop in and answer us. *
