Where was the speed trap? FWIW, the feds like to hang out near the northern end. And they have been tasked with balancing the federal deficit, so beware.

I had my first run in with LE on the parkway on this trip just south of Floyd VA. He was traveling the opposite direction, a couple minutes later a red 1200GS blew by me. Next thing I know LEO is passing me with his light on. He went up and pulled over the 1200 and then flagged me to stop. He said I was going 78MPH when I passed him, but what he failed to realize is that he had the yellow 800GS mixed up with the red 1200GS. Anyway he left us both go with a warning... Happy Easter!!!

Great Report and pictures. This one jumped out at me. A bunch of the small details seemed very familiar to me, and now I'm 95% sure when I was a kid I put together a puzzle of this exact scene. :thumb

Well Fall is almost here, who is doing a BRP trip this year? Right now I'm looking at the week of Columbus Day.

I'm headed down that way, leaving Wednesday afternoon!:clap
Plan to get to Boone Thursday, some on the Parkway,,, poke around there a bit and then head back north for the BMW Twin Valley Rally at Willville this week-end. Went last year,,, miserable weather,,, but had a good time and great area.
    Heading north Sunday morning,,,

Cool Scootac, have fun and be safe. I like the way you framed your pic of the Mill with the over head branches. I have had one of those trips on the BRP when the weather just would not cooperate. As I've said before there just something special about. No stop signs or lights for near 500 miles and you always feel like your in the middle of nowhere even though in reality in most places you are not.

Great RR, Rog. And I'm happy you kept the thread alive b/c the tips are invaluable. A trip on the BRP is on my to-do list and this thread has been a good resource and motivator.

I did the whole trip in Aug. 2009.

This photo just sticks with me.

I agree TC, the pic kind of sums up the ambiance of the BRP.
I have yet to see it in the summer lush/green. So far early Spring(April), Early Fall (September), and Fall (October).
My favorite so far is October, but I would like to see it when everything is green as well.

    Great thread!!

Left Toronto Canada on Monday on my F800gs to start off in Front Royal on the Skyline Drive then BRP. My first time here.
It is absolutely beautiful!! Love it!! I've never seen such a wonderful road free of truck traffic full of scenic beauty and that just goes on forever...What a great execution of a world class motorcycle road!! I'm in Roanoke right now heading to Asherville Thursday night (hope to make it all the way there) and back northbound on Friday this week. See you on the road (or trail:) I'm already thinking of my next trip where I can stay longer in one place. This time, I want to see it all if I can.
