I do my own oil and filter changes and other minor maint. Wouldn't mind learning a little more about valve adjustments and the like. Maybe I can work something out with Overlander. I'm not that far from Kansas City. If anyone would like to check out my Lake Superior Circle Tour ride report, it is over at my BMWomen site. http://www.bmwomen.com/viewtopic.php?t=96 Enjoy.
To bad you missed it...it was fun...had a good turn out especially for when the weather was cool and rainy....601 people attended.
To veer a little from the thread, Around 1989 for a few years when I was living in San Francisco there was Cafe Claude in Claude Alley downtown. On weekends there were great rides to Napa where a male rider desiring to ride would sign up his name on a posted list if he was interested in carrying a girl passenger; passengers could sign up or decide who to ride with at the am departure in front of the cafe. Great food along the way and vino. Only the French can organize rides like this.
Oh, I ride....just on the pillion seat I SO admire all you gals who do ride and share your adventures with the rest of us. I took the MSF course, bought a bike and promptly crashed - it wasn't pretty. Took that as a sign from God to keep my butt firmly mounted on the back seat I much prefer to wave at all the kids - young and old - look at the pretty flowers and the wildlife, sleep and leave the driving to someone else. I love speed, street bikes and cruisers. I have some very happy memories of an off road trip on a GoldWing - now that was an adventure!! These days the VTX is just fine and my driver has figured out how to do a wheelies with it too, that gets the ole blood pumping. Ride to live and live to ride!!
It's all good! Some of the best times I've had over the last year and a half has been without a throttle in *my* hand. https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/J/JPlayer_Sidecar%2520Still%2520Life_FirstTurnArizona.jpg https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/J/JPlayer_Sidecar%2520Still%2520Life_Sidecars_start_1st_turn.jpg Pike's Peak: https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/J/JPlayer_Pikes%2520Peak_chopperphoto_pikes_peak.jpg This is very similar to the Cycle News Photo....but taken by a completely different person. Nearly 20 pages of women riders.....pretty frikken cool! peace, janette
Nothing wrong with being a pillion! in fact I miss the thrills of racing on the back, as much as I love speed I just can't blast like my man -mind you he has the advantage off years of riding & previously raced. It would have been interesting getting around off road with a goldwing, it would have been a mission if you got it stuck.
Boring day here in Seattle and ran accross the thread! Ride year round, fix my own bikes, go fast, get dirty (and wet) DL1000, DRZ400, Monster S4, SV650 and they are all running! http://www.out--there.com
I agree, this is so cool to see and read about all these women riders. I just started a couple years ago on a KLR250 mostly offroading. Too much fun, but I wanted to go farther and it only wanted to take me to Colorado from New Mexico (at least at any speed). So I got a BMW650CS and have been venturing out farther and farther. I am planning to get a VStrom650 for my trip to Alaska next summer. I am hoping to meet more adventure riders (women as well as men) along the way. I love sharing stories and pictures. I have heard pretty much all good about the VStroms thus far, but if anyone has anymore information for me it is welcome. I hope everyone is having as much fun as I have been! Salute!!!
